Almost everyone in this thread focused on their tours, but there are other things, e.g., as mentioned in this post from another thread:

It makes no sense to me that the label wouldn't release the band's material in full in the largest English-language market in the world (North America), on the day of release. I wonder about the economic logic of that.

That they didn't release RTF at all in the US is a WTF moment for me. I'm not at all familiar with marketing practices concerning European bands in North America considering it's a market of c. 350 million consumers their popularity would only have to be a fraction of what it is in Britain for it to still be an economically viable undertaking.

EDIT: I find this approach particularly bizarre since the rise of the internet means that you can download material from any point worldwide whenever, making staggered release dates obsolete (or more specifically, encouraging illegal downloading and file sharing if you are expected to wait months to be able to buy).

Presumably as with most things in life it comes down to money. Release dates would presumably come with distribution costs and advertising costs..expensive....the band would need to tour regularly relentlessly and often as it's so massive and even then there's no guarantee of breakthrough....all expensive but yeah these days with tinternet and downloads it's if not easier to breakthrough it must be easier to get to listen to albums

The economic logic is probably therefore just pure cost. There are artists huge here with loadsa money behind them that have never made it over there.....they always sound like they enjoy the rare occasions they go over though.....adds a bit more challenge maybe I don't know if they'd ever have a found a place there though say like Mumford & Sons have....and that's a compliment to the Manics because they're hard to pigeon-hole. Adele's done well there hasn't she? Erm Muse, Bush - they sounded American though back in the grunge days....they all have an Americany sound which if I knew what I was talking about I could explain better

(Plus when you have a song called Ifwhiteamericatoldthetruthforonedayitsworldwouldfa llapart you might have to work even harder than most. Maybe.)

I don't get the release stuff either, there's been quite a shift in the way things are getting released. The first half a dozen Manics albums and corresponding singles had country specific pressings in UK, USA, Canada, France, Germany, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, South Africa, Thailand, Japan, Australia, New Zealand off the top of my head, no doubt a few more that have escaped me for now.

Since Journal, there's been nowt like that at all, the UK releases have been Europe wide pressings and outside of the UK there's only really been the Japanese market left that's always had its own pressings. The US vinyl of Journal is still on my shopping list, mind..

As far as the digital side of things go, I have no idea. I didn't know Rewind The Film wasn't available for such a long time either. Maybe it's something to do with licensing, I don't know. I know This Is My Truth and Know Your Enemy were put out by Virgin in North America but that aside I didn't even know Virgin was a thing stateside.. I'm sure it's not got much if anything to do with any ignorance on behalf of the band or their management, sure if Nicky Wire had his way there'd be nowhere you wouldn't be able to hear the one last shot of mass communication of Postcards, if you wanted to. Digitally at least, fuck knows why not. Have no idea where MP3s are hosted when you buy them or what the legality issues are around them. Would've thought that there'd be no cost to the hoster when people download, wherever they from? Total guess, mind.

In these days of iTunes and digital downloads there should be no way we can't get it when you guys do.

They did have some vinyl's for US Record Store day, and when I went into my local record shop and asked for the Manic Street Preachers, I definitely got the confused "who????" look!

Canadians get Manics stuff normally on release day - however, that does not include some CD singles or other limited material.

I had trouble getting hold of the last two single downloads - ended up buying them problem-free from a German site. Had to really search. No Norwegian site had them, and British online retailers were geo-blocked. So there is some sort of restriction there, although I can't for the life of me understand the logic.

I bought the Futurology CD no difficulties on its day of release, in Norway.

I mean, yeah they're a UK band but there are several tracks that have had a cd release in Japan but nowhere else, not even at home. Wonder how that happens.

They've taken a massive (personal) loss on their last two us tours, i believe. If that isn't doing it for the fans, i don't know what is!

But you forgot to mention that they had only 3 US/Canada tours in the last 20 years and only 5 US/Canada tours in total (please correct me if I'm wrong):
2015 (nothing in the Seattle / Vancouver area, the closest gig was in San Francisco = 950 miles away)
2009
1999
1996
1992
(obviously not counting 1995)
