Let's hope they read these threads to get an idea of how well the boxset will go down with those who buy their music. Who know's, the Townsend description could just be poorly worded. It might be worth emailing them to clarify the details, it all feels a bit rushed to me as they haven't even mentioned the Motown Junk vinyl and of all places you would expect it to be offered is the Townsend store.

i would love it if they read my ranting and complaining about it to be honest. sadly though, they "do not use the internet" according to them.

i don't think they can mention the names of the singles on vinyl because i am sure somewhere i read that at least one of them is to be limited only to the first few orders.

Nicky's been calling NT a greatest hits*. That's because whether you label it a best of, greatest hits or collection, it all amounts to the same thing. This is the Manics' second one.

Presumably we'll have to wait another ten years before they bother to do the box set properly. What I'm saying is, National Treasures is irrelevant in the grand scheme of things, but if they had used the occasion to produce a box set which included something of genuine of use, then that would have been great. What they've done is to release a compilation album on 38 (or 39, apparently) discs, which is of little real use to anyone. When you think about it, the infamous PFAYM box set had more going for it: an exclusive DVD, an exclusive book (in terms of quality and extra pages) and, above all else, an exclusive demo of Nicky singing. What more could someone willing to acknowledge the existence of PFAYM want?

Hard to argue with a post with a footnote.

I agree with most of that, I was just saying it's technically not a 'Greatest Hits' or a 'Best Of...', whatever Nicky refers to it as.

I do think it's a huge missed opportunity.

We had Lipstick Traces and that Know Your B-sides thing (which I've never owned! ) along with the anniversary issues of THB and EMG so maybe they thought adding the b-sides as well wasn't required. They obviously just wanted the singles as stand alone songs but should have just put them all on one or two CD's. Ah well, knowing me I'll be ordering through Townsend again tonight and hoping my package turns up this time!

except for the fact that LT in no way covered all of the b-sides up to even that point, and in the last 10 years have been b-sides that you can only hear on a record player or DVD player. really unfair not to take this opportunity to let the fans be able to legally buy and hear all the songs. did i say really unfair? sorry, meant to say "that's quite a shit sandwich they've made for the fans".

it's a real pain that THB anniversary didn't have the b sides on it, Sculpture of a Man was the only one on Lipstick Traces and that's probably the worst. Too Cold Here and Love Torn Us Under are brilliant.

I think they should release an entire b side collection, a real gold mine.

Maybe they have plans to do that at some other point. 30th anniversary or something?

That is true! (The majority of Nicky's vocals aside!)

The Manics site has play.com having signed copies. Not available for North Americans, of course.
