After more than two months, recap time. For me, along with THB and Lifeblood, Futurology is one of their near-perfect albums. For practical, everyday listening, it is their best. (THB is their best if I wanna RELEVANCE MUSIC JOURNO, and Lifeblood if we΄re talking personal sentiment).

1) With the addition of the deluxe edition extra tracks, that I still consider part of the album and it΄s proper ending, Futurology is as sprawling and even more adventurous than KYE, but with superior quality control. (It΄s Antisocialmanifesto and Kodawari that I consider the extras)
2) It is as sonically interesting as Lifeblood, but does not require the listener to be in a certain mood.
3) Has a mix and production on par with TIMTTMY.
4) Displays a livelier, more positive outlook on things, without veering into SATT/PFAYM schmaltz.

With it΄s painterly themes, it is that rare album that tries to inspire and succeeds. And don΄t even get me started on what a surprise this was, them managing this so late in their career. And how genuinely impressed I am with their work ethic and relentlessness. Everything is going to shit in the world, but they pulled through. And won, finally.

I'm the same. Try naming 3 songs off JFPL, it's bloody difficult

Think I can name the first 3!! think its because I mainly listen to music on the bus on my CD Walkman so don't have CD case to hand so never learn the name of the songs unless its repeated in the title

So no Mercury nomination for Futurology I really thought they were in with a chance, especially with how much critical praise this album has (rightfully) got.

Yeah thought it might have had more nominations for whatever awards are around. I still play it every single day in my CD player in my room and usually a few tracks on my laptop. Love it.

I doubt the Mercury panel ever made it past that lame excuse for an opener.

So so negative - at least you're consistent!

If Journal didn't get a Mercury nod, no Manics album ever will again.

Agreed, the album 2 months in is still sounding as vital as it did on first listenings. I really feel the Manics have made an astonishing comeback after a few years of less well received albums and a bit of direction loss.

2007's SATT was what brought me back into the fold, but really it is the last 4 albums - when you think of it, it's amazing, FOUR album, in 5 years, that contain such high quality material.

The 2013/2014 era will be one of my favourites in years to come, RTF and Futurology, as well as the 14 Bonus tracks from both albums/singles; on my ipod it's a trilogy of albums. And a trilogy that I can barely find fault with; RTF I discovered late (only recently, after the Futurology hype), and thought it was absolutely wonderful; a beautiful piece of music.

Sorry, but I count 12 Bonus Tracks, 5 from RTF and 7 from Futurology (not counting the demos/alternate takes/O2 tracks, obviously). Can you list yours please?

Sorry Gabo, meant 12^ I guess wishful thinking; Nicky mentioned 9 bonus tracks were done, so far we've had 7, and honestly, I like all 7.

The 5 from RTF are very worthy also; I put all together on ipod as an album; the Manics are in such a great place artistically at the moment. Great time to be a fan!

Ok, I was scared because I keep track of all the B-Sides (I also created an useful thread for it) and I have 5 RTF and 7 Futurology tracks!
