There will be a review of it (in French) on Cellophane Sounds very soon, early September I think. Writing it at the moment.

Anyway, all those articles by or about Myers confirms him as a really nice man, I hope the book will get a good response, I'd be happy for him.

My review of the book went up on A Future in Noise today; questions and comments about the book's content and the review itself, which can be added at the bottom of the page on the article (and/or here and FD), would be *much* appreciated!: http://www.afutureinnoise.com/2010/0...ben-myers.html

Interview with Ben with questions from me will appear there September 20th.

@keeley: I thought this was a great interview, question-wise from you and those who'd submitted questions, plus I was pleasantly surprised at how thorough his answers were (here and in my interview) and how approachable he was in general over seeking out his responses for sure. I'll leave a comment on the Cult of Richey site on this oon!

@Chloe: Looking forward to your piece (I always read Cellophane Sounds with Google Translate's help, hee) when it's up!

I've got a horrible feeling that this may be the springboard for a really uncomfortable movie in years to come.
It wouldn't surprise me if the next few years Film 4 or someone similar adapted this novel into 'Richey' the movie.
It would probably be ace, but I agree with most of James's fears about a Manics movie.

Yes, I plan to - I'd not seen the photo used on the cover before so I'm curious to see whether there are more 'unseen' pics within, plus I've gone on a bit of a collecting-spree in regards to all the Manics bios!

"Would anyone really want to read another biography of the Manic Street Preachers that rehashes the same second hand misinformation about Richey Edwards? As a fan I don't think I would. And you certainly couldn't explore such narrative devices as internal voices, conscience, indecision - by-products of depression, if you like - through a straight-forward, dry biography.
I really like this bit.

Good blog, I really am warming to Ben

You're not planning to read it then James?

I think I definitely will, even if I don't like it, I know that Richey was a big fan of the idea that you should only read books that you disagree with or are offended by. I'd also like to follow the saga of this book being written and produced to its very end.

But fairplay to you if that's your desicion, I'm sure it was in informed one.

not sure if it's informed ;-)
just a gut feeling... like i say, books like these leave an instant bad taste in the mouth. i love biographies, but it's the idea of invention, especially surrounding so recent a subject

It's not that recent to be fair, it was 15 years ago. He's not selling it as fact and he seems creative enough that his interpretation would be a better shot than most. It's like an alternate ending to a film.

There's something I find very uncomfortable about turning somebodys life story into a work of fiction when the subject is no longer around to correct inaccuracies.

Not sure if I really want to read this TBH.

Cheers for linking to my review. Good questions you posed to him as well. As I implied in my review, the best sections in the book tended to be the recollections of his past, particularly GT-era, as opposed to the 1995 narrative which more than once shows the challenge it must've been to write. Ben definitely did his research, and as far as inaccuracies I was certainly scoping out for these in the beginning of reading haha, but a ton of 'canon' elements are indeed incorporated.

This is a work presenting one, fictional version of Richey, just as the Richey in my stories is another version altogether (and one who seems to have gotten in smutty adventures with Nicky a fair bit but that aside...), and each fan's conception of Richey is going to vary individually, and while there was but one, THE Richey, all sides of how people may interpret his character in works of fiction or in discussion are frequently engaging to me, and that's the bottom line of why I gave reading this work a chance.
