What if when Richey disappeared....
... they thought to themselves, lets write Everything Must Go but promise never to release it until Richey returns...
I was just thinking about this scenario, on the presumption that he might still be with us. Hope it doesnt offend anyone, just a thought. I guess Lifeblood and PFAYM would never have been made which may please a few on here!! (not me!!), but I was thinking of what wouldn't have been achieved ie Brit Awards, No 1 Albums and singles, Manic Millennium, Cuba, Glasto and Reading headline slots etc etc. Post your thoughts PS I am truly gratefull for them carrying on but am always thinking of the "what ifs" so thought I'd share my thoughts.

Wait, so they would have just written EMG and then stopped completely? Or jumped straight to This Is My Truth..?

MoMoney MoJunk, no, they would have written EMG which was half Richey's anyway, and not done anything else until his return

Ah okay.
I guess they would have just gone down in history as a cult punk-rock band who never had much commercial success. There would be much more respect for them in the music world for finishing after 3 albums without sacrificing their sound, and finishing on such a beautiful note. I think many radio stations and casual music fans would regard them as "That band that did Motorcycle Emptiness". While others would see them as a band who quit cause one member went AWOL. So imo, they would go down as a cult band with a strong following. Perhaps they would even have a stronger cult following than now due to the fact they were only around for such a short space of time and were extremely hated. |

Yeah, I agree with that... I guess there wouldn't have been any A Design For Life etc, and no Journal For Plague Lovers... I love the fact they became huge because it meant I could say I told you so to my Dad!! But it's really bittersweet at the end of the day.

A reunion tour would have been the greatest moment of most people's lives too!

Well, they wouldn't have recorded any of their best material and my music listening habits might be drastically different as a result.
So basically it would've been a bit of a crap thing for them to give up after that.

I would have personally missed them doing JFPL the most, but maybe that would have happened anyway and taken a different turn again

If this actually happened then we'd see JDB in the line-up on Buzzcocks by now. |
