I know, but comedic delivery relies largely on the timing, right?

I really don't get why the band can't release singles. I think there's a market here for 12" and CD singles. They could be limited and sold through the official site. This is something I would get behind.

I refuse to pay money for a file that's locked away on my PC. I still get such a big buzz from buying and receiving physical records.

maybe not singles per se - even in the good old CD days i found myself gradually cooling on the idea of spending £2-4 on a disc with a track I already have on the album alongside just the one b-side, as was becoming fairly common towards the end of their days.

EPs however - now that's something where I think your comment applies, especially for a band steeped in tradition as the Manics.

5/6 tracks or so; all offcuts from the album, maybe an alternative version of a track or two from the sessions, a remix, a live track, whatever. nice packaging, physical 10" or 12" and CD available direct from the band store; £7-8 but no more, digital available through the usual outlets.

they've done a sprinkling of EPs in the past, why not go down that route for fans willing to buy?

I'd be happy with a traditional 4 track EP

It didn't really help that artists/publishers released 3-4 versions of the single with different b-sides/remixes just suck a bit more out of your wallet and inflate the chart position.

I'd be up for paying for an EP though. New Art Riot still still stands proud and tall after.... gulp.... 30 years....

I'm sure there used to be a website that tracked how many times songs had been played across UK radio stations. Can't find it now, seems to have been replaced by commercial apps wanting you to pay for the information. Anyone remember it?

I like it. It's as if "The Love of Richard Nixon" hooked up with "30-Year War".

Wouldn't 6 Music or Absolute be where it would most likely get played? I have to admit I rarely listen to the radio.

It's not quite what I remember, but at https://ukradiolive.com/playlists you can search by radio station (where it says song name you can also use artist).

Radio One: Zero plays (nothing from their back catalogue)
Radio Two: Three plays (Autumn Song, A Design for Life and Motorcycle Emptiness have also had plays in the past week)
Radio X: One play (Twenty one plays from their back catalogue in the past week)
Absolute Radio: Fifteen in plays
Virgin Radio: Fifty two plays

Is that good? Doesn't look like the BBC are that keen! As a comparison, Noel Gallagher's current single has had 23 plays in the past week on Radio 2 but none on Radio 1,

Would not surprise me in the slightest if political bands or bands perceived as being political have been blacklisted at the BBC for fear of complaints.

Nah that won't be the reason here - you'd literally have to have lyrics as obvious as "fuck the Tories" for that to happen. Radio 1 they're too old and whoever compiled the radio 2 playlist doesn't like the song probably. Aren't 6music playing it? They like the manics

Or maybe it's not a single single and the month of release we'll see a flurry of playlist and radio appearances?

I think the modern parlance is a focus track
