So true! This is the only forum type place that I post online these days and it's taking some adjustment and getting used to to be honest. It's very random because half the time you don't know if someone is male/female, what age they are or whatever. Makes it all a bit surreal. Back in the day (when the internet was all fields around here) us official forum folks had a website called Forever Portrayed where we put little profiles and pictures of ourselves up and stuff. Was rather nifty.

I think they need to stop trying to equate truth style blandness (to an extent) with commerical success. To be a big selling band, you don't have to appeal to everyone who watches strictly come dancing, you just need to sell your product to the right audience. You know, radiohead are huge, but they don't make songs that sound like they would be played on an itv advert....
Brilliant post. I couldn't agree with you more.

the thing that gets my goat is that there was this huge, obvious divide over the direction the band took after Richey disappeared 15+ years ago, a shift that any fan posting here now must surely have accepted long ago. and yet some people act like people who are down on Postcards now are so because of a similar shift in style from Journal! i always find that really patronising.
True on the love/hate thing and they are a band who polarise opinion in a bigger way than most.

A lot of the grumbles about Postcards on FD completely echo my feelings about Truth in 1998, but I guess I've kind of made my peace with them over that album now as they've continued to give me so much since, so I'm in a bit of a different place now. Maybe I need to dredge deep inside myself a little further again and understand once more how that disappointment felt.

We all worship at the altar of MSP...one way or another. I've already met a few absolutely beautiful souls on here so far and I must confess that I am loathe to let that go.

What Takk said in the quotes above. I think the band realise that now anyway. Well it sounds like they do, from what they've been saying about where they're going with the next album. I just hope it's more JFPL territory and not KYE territory.

I've said so much about Postcards and have repeated myself several billion times over so many different threads now, I refuse to say anymore about the album. Time to move on.

More people buy albums than singles. I know I do.
