Japanese 2009 re-issues
Does anyone have any of these re-issues of the albums and b-sides?
Would you guys say these are worth it? (Around $40 each?) Do they come with artwork? Thanks mucho. |

They're probably my fav items amongst my cd collection. Wonderfully faithful replicas of the original vinyl release. The Lifeblood one is particularly good with the glossy heavy duty sleeve & artbook & all inserts etc.
Also nice to have (nearly) all the B-sides as a separate disc with each album in my humble opinion. Worth $40? They are to me, but I'm sure you can get it cheaper via an ebay private auction rather than a dealer.

I got really lucky with these, I got all 8 and the UK double JFPL for £80 off ebay not that long after they were released. No idea why someone sold them on that quickly. They had taken the staples out of the booklets though
I'd say the KYE, LB and SATT ones are best just because you get more on them. The stuff that's on LT doesn't make it onto any of the albums but I assume you have that anyway. I was just glad to finally have stuff like Fear Of Motion, Umbrella, Failure Bound and Fearless Punk Ballad on cd. They all look great, too.

Funnily enough I was thinking of getting the LB and KYE ones in particular.
I've been trying to talk myself into getting the NT boxset but I'm thinking getting these Japanese re-issues might be a better idea. I'll start searching for some cheaper deals online |

Pros:
The packaging is perfect (apart from The Holy Bible, which is still perfectly authentic, I suppose, but not quite the same when the picture disc is five inches and the packaging stands out from the rest of the collection). All the b-sides are mastered at the same level, which wasn't the case over the various singles they were released on, as I learned when compiling many an oldskool homemade comp Back In The Day. The vinyl/cassette/DVD tracks are sourced from the masters not rips. Quarantine always sounded like shit when ripped from the DVD. It's better here (although still not perfect by someone of Visconti's standards). Cons: You still need the Japanese vinyl replica of Lipstick Traces, released earlier, because most of the tracks on it are left off. They use previous Japanese tracklistings for the albums (the second editions, at that), which means some b-sides get stuck on the end of the albums instead of the bonus discs. Never popular among purists. The bonus disc for EMG only has two b-sides, the rest is cruddy remix/live filler but even then it's still missing Bright Eyes from the Astoria. Similarly, in relation to an area of discussion in the other thread, you can forget about the 16 or so tracks related to the various Everlasting singles; you don't even get Valley Boy. This set (minus Lipstick Traces) is arguably less complete than the NT box (if you forget that it doesn't have the albums in that box) They were released before JFPL. Incomplete collection ahoy. They were released before PFAYM as well. Or is that a pro...? This ebay seller is great for things like this when he has them in stock. Might look a little more expensive than places like CD Japan at first glance but unlike them he'll make sure you don't get shafted by customs. You can't argue with customer feedback like his. I wonder if we will get JFPL and PFAYM ones too.
Not much to bulk up the JFPL one with though. Primitive Painters, Alien Orders/Invisible Armies, Vision Blurred and the remixes? Could sneak the live stuff form the SKON download on it maybe.

i kind of keep hoping that these Japan-only releases will get a rest of the world release.
then again, in regards of the band that i collect like you here collect the Manics, this Japan-only release from 1985 has never been released anywhere else.

The tracklisting for the second disc of the SATT one is completely in the wrong order.
Apart from that they are absolute heaven. As previously said the Lifeblood one is particularly lush. |

i picked up the first 2 records from the collection and they sound phenomenal on my ipod...the copies i bought from 92 and 93 sounded so low i had to crank my ipod volume to max and they still sounded low lol. so it was money well worth spent.

The Lifeblood one is one of the things I've yearned for ever since its release. One day...
