With The Smiths one, it was clear from the off what you're getting - and the choices are £35 or £250. You know if you buy the cheaper one you'll be missing one or two things and the deluxe set appears to be everything, 'complete', including vinyl and CD.

I'm not annoyed about the Manics one, just disappointed that they missed the opportunity to package everything up. Still looking forward to getting it and also to see the complaints on here about the quality of the remastering...

Dare I even say it but the Achtung Baby boxset shits all over the Manics one

*DISCLAIMER: as much as its not cool to say you're a big fan of U2 (which i'm not btw) Achtung baby is their best era when they had some ounce of credibility left.

They really have put the effort in with that Achtung Baby box-set. It's my favoutite U2 album by miles. Check out the free CD in the next issue of Q too:

They have messed this up royally yes, but still well worth getting. The vinyl CDS look bang tidy

The Beach Boys album is, by definition, incomplete - it's the best they can do, but despite this it is a major release as the music on there is unreleased and is, arguably, some of the best music ever made

As for the mono / stereo issue, Brian Wilson always wanted it in mono due to his deafness in one ear - it's how he would have wanted the public to hear it, I'm not really bothered about stereo mixes. Same with the Beatles - the mono set is how The Beatles wanted us to hear those albums, stereos manifestations of the first 4 albums are definitely superfluous and unnecessary

The Smiths box set is incomplete, there are still a few tracks here and there which are missing

As for this Manics box set, if you buy it then my personal opinion is that you have more money than sense. If you want everything collected up and presented really nicely then the Japanese 20th anniversary reissues are the only way to go, and they will set you back about the same as this box set. They don't come with a lipstick or a vanity mirror though

...or three 7"s...or remastered songs. True though, would've preferred a boxset of remastered deluxe albums.

errrr... wow. I knew this box set would be an utter waste of money, but this is a shame, it's cringeworthy.

I absolutely dread to think how much I've spent on them over the years. No doubt less than some people but as a proportion if anyone's spent more than me they're a fucking idiot.

well, looking at it from a glass half full aspect that beloved type of Manics fan who blindly buys and orders everything just because it has "Manic Street Preachers" written on it have not been fucked over as much as it was looking when this set was first announced.

overall, though, piss concern or interest in the fans has been displayed here. if i total it up correctly, only 8 videos on the DVD were not on the FD one, and even then the Lifeblood singles videos were on the DVD singles.

as for the missing b-sides far, far, far too many quality songs & live recordings seem destined to be "lost" from a release outside of Japanese special editions, then. as they have a good reputation for being fan friendly in person, the nature of this release is all the more shocking.

All the b-sides should have been included. Very odd that they're not. But then they are probably saving that for when they are in their 50's!
