Just a thought

Would you welcome this? Has enough time passed? Would it ever happen?

Not really against it but can't really see a point!
He doesn't contribute to wiring anything does he?

Nothing against the lad but he's a musician that helps live and that's pretty much it - like all the other people that help out on the live shows!

Copied from the other thread: I don't see why Wayne should be a permanent member, unless he starts contributing to the songwriting or recording process (does he play on the albums? I've never checked). Otherwise he should stay as a live member, because er... that's what he is.

Would you welcome Nick Naysmyth becoming a full time band member?

I think the Manics are a band that is definitely about a particular background / individual philosophy they have built up and speak for, who write lyrics 'to show from where I came'.

If the concept was a musical one it might work. Bands like Deep Purple changed their line-ups regularly and comfortably without harming their own musical concept. While some like Smashing Pumpkins have one driving member who is comfortable welcoming new members on their terms, but either of these would be strange for the Manics seeing as their bonds were formed in school and community. Unless James's friend who likes Bon Jovi wants to pick up an instrument and join, or Flicker made a comeback, any new member would just seem out of place. In the Manics' case I don't think this makes them cliquey or anything.

Nothing against any of the musicians they've worked with, however.

Well it all depends on whether the band write material with Wayne Murray and Nick Naysmith.
I think Wayne Murray has got his own band to work on though. (A Boy Called Wolf isn't it?)

No, he's a session musician at best. He adds to the sound live but as a full time member? No.

I think I've got about as much chance of being made a full member as Wayne has. Why would he want to? He has his own band doesn't he?

I'd be cool with him playing at the shows that are played as a 3-piece (ie THB set), contributing to songwriting, playing on albums, standing more in front, being a 'partner' instead of paid (not sure what the situation is there!)...

but somehow calling him a 'member' just feels weird in this case.

So anything up until that minor semantic point is fine.

I don't think he should be an official member and i doubt he would really feel comfortable being so. I like his live contributions though and also his own stuff hes written. Speaking of which is Boy Cried Wolf still around I haven't heard anything since their debut ep and that one song they released after that?

I've heard nothing by him or one of his bands that would suggest to me he'd be a worthy addition as a full time member. He was lucky enough to land the role he has.
