I can't even be bothered to be excited because it's going to be a bunch of bloody vinyl singles again.

I want Anthem with remakes of A Song For Departure & Symphony Of Tourette. Maybe a cover of Rush's Anthem too.

btw band will keep doing singles as get used on TV programmes like sports shows, etc

I was hoping that'd be the first single released before the album came out.
I spent... about half a minute, if that, thinking "Shit, that's going to have to be good then!" And it is.

For this album, I really don't understand the single choices. Even the Lifeblood ones were better. I think the album is brilliant, though!

First: there shouldn't be any singles for this album.
Second: The best single-worthy track is 30 year war, but that song doesn't 'describe' the album.
Conclusion: no singles needed. (just give us the whole O2-show, bastards :-))

Anthem is probably my least favourite single since I'm a fan (1998).

I hope they'll have more 'balls' with the next album

I remember seeing or reading an interview where James and Nicky said they didn't want no singles on purpose, because the concept was the album being viewed as a whole and singles would spoil that.

There are musicians, sure, that don't decide on their singles, especially in this commercial industry, but I don't think they have no rights to make a choice on their own. Some bands, at least when they become affirmed artists, such as the Manics, do make their own decisions on singles, I believe. Maybe with a discussion with their manager, or PR or whoever is helpful with the market, but a band like the Manics does care about what they are going to release.

I could care less what track the next single will be.....I just want to hear the b-sides !!! I hope there are no more vinyl only tracks. Why the hell in this day and age are they releasing singles on an outdated format anyway?

Because it is a medium that is popular with collectors, unlike the well and truly outdated CD single. No vinyls = 2 less b-sides released at all. Most of them end up in decent sound quality on youtube anyway, don't they?

On youtube yes. On decent sound quality, no.

It's more the inherent weak sound quality of the source rip.

YouTube doesn't have to be mono, no.

I'm kind of with Flint on the vinyl-only singles thing. The vinyl singles are not great quality, and when they're the only format to have certain B-sides on that should concern any fan of the band's work. The album sounds great on vinyl by the way, I am in no way opposed to vinyl entirely, I just wish they'd always do CDs (or lossless downloads) as well.

I do want them to continue releasing B-sides, but if they're going to vinyl-only (or on the flip-side, data-compressed download-only) it does make me almost wish they didn't bother, and just collected them all for a 'B-side candidates' album (on all formats!) every so often instead.

I guess those of us who don't own turntables are kinda stuck. I love the bands b-sides, and want them at least as a quality mp3. I guess I wouldn't mind if it's a weaker Nicky sung track, but "T.E. Elliot" & "Blue Generation" are just too damn good to be vinyl only.

Just noticed that they are on Jools Holland this week, so what they play on there should give an indication of forthcoming singles.

Think it will probably be Show Me the Wonder, Rewind the Film (with Richard Hawley) and whatever the next single will be.
