I actually prefer GATS to GT, but I think the only way it's getting a re-issue is if they go "well, hey, we've re-issued 3 albums, there's only another 6 to do, might as well..." or if those lovely Japanese expanded editions get a UK release...please.

Lets have TIMTTMY first, then KYE and LB. After that they can think about whether they have enough material to do a GATS one, as i highly doubt they do! The fact that the LBAL B-Sides sound like Holy Bible outtakes shows you how quickly they wanted to move on from that era.

I've always preferred the heaviness of GATS and the production is better than on GT. Not that I'm dismissing GT at all but if I could only take one album with me into solitary it'd be GATS.

I'm not hugely into, or knowleadgable about, production, but I do think GT is one of the worst produced album ever.

Didn't Nicky once said that they won't do it for GATS because there is not much worth putting in it. Honestly, I would be shocked if they did. I was thinking that GATS, KYE, and LB won't have an anniversary edition.

Not such a good idea...the Manics looked pretty awful at the time, and it wasn't that memorable of an era. This first of the album is solid, though. Got the Japanese version anyway, which is brilliant!

Agreed! I like GATS and there's no doubt that it's got some good tunes on it, but it seems that, at least with the Manics, part of releasing an anniversary edition is not only that there's some good music, but the era in the band's history as well. THB makes sense as having been re-released 10 years on because there's so much that can be done with a THB anniversary release--not only is it pretty much agreed on across the board that the album's brilliant, there was a lot going on with the band, which means there's much more for the band to talk about (and to boot, the military thing is definitely aesthetically better than whatever the hell look they were going for during GATS). Ditto with the GT rerelease--tons of material, both musically and in the band's history, to go off of.

I think GATS is a brilliant album and was actually my favourite for many years. I love the era, it felt dirty, grimy and hedonistic. I'd love a remastered album and to hear the various demos. B-sides wise, there really isn't an awful lot of good apart from Comfort Comes, Donkeys, etc.

First album of theirs I heard, always thought it was great despite having no interest in any similar dumb hard rock of that ilk.

I concur with you AK47. I thought James looked fantastic during this period. GATS also contain some of the best singles. It was the era when the band were lippy and loud, the beginning of the end. I'd be happy just for some radio sessions on a anniversary edition. Good sleeve notes and some unreleased photos.

For an band which seems to be increasingly looking to the past for it's future I see no harm in releasing a annversary edition. Perhaps re-mastered and a little more simple than the other releases we have had.

I'm not embarrassed by it, it's probably their best album for me behind The Holy Bible and Generation Terrorists, and I am possibly the only person to have ever existed who has Nostalgic Pushead as one of their favourite Manics songs ever.

It'd be great, especially if they had a second CD with b-sides from that era on it, a bit like what Pulp did when they reissued their albums, such as Patrick Bateman and Comfort Comes, but a lot of the time I've found the only albums to get reissued are groundbreaking, seminal records, and whilst I love it, I don't think Gold Against The Soul is iconic like Generation Terrorists, The Holy Bible and Everything Must Go are.

Judging by the reaction to GATS on the new documentary for GT, A GATS reissue is extremely unlikely but I hold hope it'll be done even if the band don't contribute much to it in the way of a documentary.
