I'm probably the only person here that thinks the new video is absolutely awful. I much prefer the lyric video.

The US Store got updated with quantities
100 signed LPs, 100 signed CDs and 25 cassettes. Also Rough Trade NYC lists the blue vinyl as limited to 300 copies (probably in the US)

Very quick chat. Nice random talk about Jimbo's love of his dad's roasts at Christmas. Enjoyed how Dermot called Jimbo "Nicky Wire" twice at the end! Ha!

That was interesting, good to hear James sound well and from the interview I learn that James, Nicky and possiby Richey? went to raves before they were a band and James has been inspired by Viktor Jara since he was 15. Also that U2 and the Clash have songs about him. So I think those songs are One Tree Hill and Washington Bullets. I hope the Manics make their next album similar to James' work.

Good choice of words at the end of most of the pronounced lines translate well to Sudamerica or Amιrica do Sul. Subtle, clever

The video is great though; it's like ADFL filmed in lockdown with some beaut graded footage from Sudamerica. i'd be interested in the provenance of the footage. Whilst like ADFL it does not feature dropped sticks midway through.

Damn, the second verse of Boy From The Plantation is great, with its vivid descriptions of air movement and wind, while the music sounds equally high, windswept and air-scented. And then the song is joined by a harmonica -- air bending through tiny ribs of metal. The soundscapes here are amazing.
Or those constant underwater explosions accompanying the piano in There'll Come A War. So much to listen to, such great details. Just observing the decay of the guitar notes in Plantation is more fun than I've had in ages with music. F-n sucks they don't make a ton of great indie rock any more, boys and girls. I've missed it a lot, I have. That interplay between the images in the words, and the images in the textures of the instruments -- so visual for something that, strictly speaking, does not include any visual elements in itself. Closing ones eyes and looking at these landscapes is such an escape from this world of pictures that say so little. Why is it that only old-guy rock is so rich in visuals, and when I play modern (supposedly good) electronica all the textures are the same vacuum-wrapped digital esthetic? Vaporized clouds of abstract knob settings. Vocals coated in sheets of Melodyne and Autotune, coldly chafing against each other. Aggressively personal, imageless words conjuring up squares in feeds. I know I sound like Nicky's grandpa saying all this, but boy was it an ugly decade, the 10s. It's been so long since I've heard music that sounds nothing like it -- it just makes me realize how bad it got. |

As reviewers have the album now, I wonder if any will leak.

I just watched the video again for Boy from the Plantation, then wanted to watch That's No Way To Tell A Lie... and wow, I forgot how great that video is, it's so unlike anything the band had done before or since, it's really awesome, I wish they did more interesting and fun videos like it to get more people's attention. James was a good sport getting dunked into the water like that haha. I wish they would upload a HD version of the video.
