Motown Junk Re-Issued on Heavenly Records, Due May 21st

Hiya all.

Was chatting to a friend of mine who works for Heavenly Records. We got into a chat about the Manics, and he mentioned a 7" re-issue of Motown Junk due May the 21st! It will be in a limited press he said, but enough to go around.

I was thinking of not sharing this info, so I'd know when to buy it!

EDIT: As of today, new details have been released:

Manic Street Preachers / Motown Junk on 7″!Heavenly Recordings // 11 May 2011
Manic Street Preachers
1. Motown Junk
2. Sorrow 16

Available for the first time on 7” exclusively from the Heavenly Recordings stall at the Independent Labels Market on Berwick Street, 21/05/11.

Twenty years on from its original release, Heavenly Recordings issue an extremely limited 7” of Motown Junk, Manic Street Preachers’ first single for the label. 1000 copies of the single will be released to coincide with Heavenly’s involvement in the Independent Labels Market that’s due to take place on Berwick Street, London W1 on Saturday May 21st.

Never before released on 7”, Motown Junk was the opening salvo in a twenty-year career that doesn’t really need précising here. Safe to say, it sounds as frantic, as exciting and as vital now as it ever has. Four minutes of wide-eyed, unadulterated speedball rock’n’roll – this is a perfect snapshot of one of the country’s most loved bands at inception point.

The single will be available exclusively from the Heavenly Recordings stall at the Independent Labels Market on May 21st and from the merchandise stall at the Manics Cardiff International Arena gig on the same day and stock is extremely limited. Any copies remaining after May 21st will be sold via the Heavenly or Manics websites.

Ha, just googled "Heavenly Records Motown Junk" and this thread was the first thing to come up. Sounds interesting, naturally I'll have to buy it... I'll have to see it to believe it, mind.

Seems a bit odd that they would wait until May to release it, I would have thought today would be a sensible day to release a limited edition single! (That's not meant in a 'I don't believe you' kind of way, I do, more just a general comment). It would coincide nicely with the tour though.

Interesting. But....what's the point? I guess it's limited cos they know only a limited amount of people buy Manics singles these days I'd buy it if it had any meaning or whatever but a re-release for the sake of it doesn't merit buying it for me personally.
I'd buy a new single though with new b-sides of course!

Well it coincides with the tour, so it's quite a good time to release it I reckon!

He said that it was never released on a 7" before, and it's his favourite Manics song.

Well there wasn't a 7" first time round... Wonder why Motown Junk didn't but You Love Us did.

What they should've done is filmed the Heavenly gig and then put it in a nice little boxset with Motown Junk AND You Love Us along with some nice art cards and the un-used Lennon artwork and released that.

Confirmed?

"and a twentieth anniversary 45” release of ‘Motown Junk’ coming out for The Independent Label Market. We’re going to dig out some old bits and pieces for that too, hopefully we’ll find some gems".

Aye, you are wise. I think that with this, our opinions on what singles should and shouldn't be released and our ideas to promote and release No Manifesto, that we at Forever Delayed could easily manage the Manics better than anyone else. We're brilliant.
