I think its in Hay on Wye, just over the Herefordshire border. At one time I could get a bus from the Black Country straight out to Hereford and then you could get a bus to Hay but they stopped it a few years back

You should definitely try to go. Try to persuade a friend who's got a car So you also get a chance to make the most of the beautiful scenery of the area. That's what I did two years ago and I had one of the best weekends of my life. We were even lucky enough to have great weather!

You're evil, now I'll end up going, though no friends have cars and this is during exams, I feel it would be best if I didn't.

Sorry I skipped the exams info I also wanted to go again, but my pupils are taking their GCSEs at that time of year... Ok let's say we'll all end up going next year, when you have a car and I'm sure Nicky will be a guest for whatever the second book with f&f is.

Will it be like a book signing? Or will we just watch JDB talk to John? It's school holidays and I might go if I know what happens there.

Not been to it myself but I gather it's similar to the one they have in Edinburgh. Authors giving talks, books on sale, poetry readings maybe etc etc.

I remember wanting to go so badly to the one he did there last time, especially as Dylan Moran was also there, but I was still at college and my mum wouldn't let me go It's a possibility this time though...we shall see.

James AND John Niven! I'd go if I was able to but probably won't be.

There is a signing after most events but usually not the ones finishing at 9:30 PM.

Hay is amazing - it's a big literary/poetry/music/arts/comedy festival. It's not a festival in the Glastonbury sense - each event is ticketed and there are 5-6 events running each hour in different marquee type structures with seats. It's probably the biggest (only) thing that happens in Mid Wales every year. It's very very clever, I come away feeling quite thick most years

The atmosphere is very casual despite being FULL of celebs, most events up until the evening have an informalish signing afterwards (hence the guitar opportunity with Mr. May above although that was me taking the piss a bit as he had a £35 book to promote)

Well want to go and see Dara O'Briain who will almost certainly be playing 2 shows in the Barclays Wealth Pavillion onsite.

You can get the train to Hereford and the festival runs shuttle buses to Hay from the station. Patrick Jones usually does something there, although I'm not sure if he is this year. Also where Nicky did his life-affirming and unforgettable solo concert a few years ago.

The only thing irrating about it is that Hay (the town) doesn't change a bit for the national/international audience that shows up. This means in previous years that mobile signal has been virtually nonexistant (though last year I think special masts went up which worked most of the time). The town completely shuts down at half 5 (apart from some pubs) and many of the pubs themselves stop serving meals after outside of certain hours or don't serve food altogether so you find yourself eating onsite (approx 10-15 mins walk from the town) a lot.

Fortunately mum lives half an hours drive away so I get to stay for free.

Also make sure you have at least something to see every couple of hours or even better on each hourly "slot" as you can find yourself without much to do after having exhausted the options in the town (and may be there for some days). For that reason it's good to experiment... and for gods sake don't just turn up for JDB
