Got some Ebay links for yer....

Vintage Swedish army wool tunic

There's this Lambretta one (£89 - doesn't have the nipped in waist that 'proper' military jackets do)

I think I found it! (b-bmmm-tish)
It says it's a "lightweight jacket" which is probably quite good for this time of year, but it does look like a shirt! And it's new. And it's £11.69.

Not sure - this might be the same one....

Oh - and proper ex-army tunics with the nipped in waist are quite rough to the touch. I assume the Next copy isn't!

The £11/£20 ones sound great but I dead to think what they feel like when you put them on.

I think they're that price cos they're quite thin. Like I said, looks more like a shirt than a jacket!

Also there's a danger of looking less JDB and more Jez from Peep Show. :-O

Haha yes!

And finding the right thickness is part of the problem. You don't want it to be like Liam Gallagher's parka but equally it shouldn't be like a sheet and not provide any warmth.

Also, length is good - I'm quite a bit taller than James and don't want something that's going to be as short as a bomber jacket

Not personally, but my niece has (without problem.) Maybe worth checking out the response on their facebook http://www.facebook.com/phixclothing if you want impartial opinions, and if you buy through paypal you're covered if there's a screw up.

Army surplus stuff isn't second hand, it's surplus...
But really, do try army surplus stores. Loads of really awesome military stuff that lasts for years.

My white sailor top - I've had it years. I used to go to work in it. I've been to gigs in it. I've thrown up in it, dropped red wine on it, AND IT STILL REFUSES TO DIE.

(it does however have a biro mark on it that won't come out. Sad times).

I have used them and had problems, didn't get my clothes for like 2 months.. Filed a complaint through ebay/paypal and managed to at least get my cash back after some hassle. Wouldn't buy from them again

Ack, nightmare I hate it when companies are unreliable. At least you got your money back - thank goodness. Thanks for commenting, because this is the sort of feedback we need to know

Somewhere else to try in Brum - there's a stall in the Rag Market which sells military stuff. It's where I got my JDB white sailor top from.

And... I seem to remember that there's a place in Wolverhampton, on the walk from the station to the Civic!

Found a Richey sailor top on Etsy! £16.30. Not bad.

Has a handy pocket for keeping eyeliner/vodka/razorblades.
