I'll confess I don't have Songs For Polar Bears but When It's All Over was nothing at all remarkable, Batten Down The Hatches and Last Ever Lone Gunman were excellent, the rest was throwaway indie, it was interesting to listen to and spot the sparks of genius though.

I don't know why Sony haven't "leaked" the album themselves yet. It'd be such an obvious anti-piracy tactic if they were to leak it except with really poor compression (or, 64kbit converted to 256kbit), since it'd mean that they could get in first, have the biggest leak torrent, and simultaneously give the casual pirate demographic something to placate their needs whilst giving the more borderline might pirate/might buy crowd some reason to buy the physical album, to enjoy all those heavily layered compositions in their full glory. Just seems a win/win solution, since the album is going to get leaked and pirated to buggery, and there's shit-all Sony can do about it other than this.

If I worked for a label I would leak the album with a reduction in sound quality as a protection. I think if people liked the songs this would be a good way to encourage buying the physical album.

As I say, you have to put effort into it. I can't even listen to If I'd Found The Right Words To Say because it affects me so much (no, not because it's rubbish) [mostly because I listened to it when my grandfather died, but I reckon it's ace even without rubbish angst]. Firelight is also delightful, and...

Aye fair dos, I'll try and listen to it tomorrow, think I've played it maybe 10 times, it's a little too long with the bonus tracks on it as well.

Perhaps the band should record it all in one take on the day of release. That would sort out the leakers once and for all

I've just discovered Snow Patrol and want to indulge in their back catalogue.
Someone who likes Snow Patrol not liking the new Manics album is the best indication yet that the album will be fantastic.

No. I hve pre-ordered the single CD and vinyl versions. And I will probably end up buying the version with the demos on the second CD before the year is out.

no, the Manics are one of the only bands whose albums I will buy, regardless of leaks. However, I'll probably sneak in some listening time as soon as I can!
