Not so much a feminist anthem as what four sheltered boys from the Valleys imagine a feminist anthem to be.

To be fair if Traci Lords read and agreed to sing it it must means she echoes the sentiment, for what it is it's very well written, it's always going to be easy to accuse men of not really understanding and that's probably the case but they gave it a good shot.

Feminism by the Manics - fighting for the right to wear Pat Butcher clothes and gaudy make up.

Haha! That's probably the fairest way to look at it.

I've answered this question before here and my answer is still very much a no. Just because it paints a group of women as victims while slagging off men, doesn't make it a "feminist anthem".

In addition to being patronizing as hell, it's also a very one dimensional view of a particular experience or experiences.

Well LBN got nearly as many votes as the rest combined in my poll on the best feminist/female identifying Manics song, so it's clearly their best stab at a feminist anthem:

As Simon Price points out, so few male rock bands even attempt to address women's issues in their songs that it's hard to be critical of LBN...

It's not considered one, it's considered a patronising song even by the band, but I don't care, it opened my mind up to feminism!

Forget about your mind. Did it open up your legs?
