just played the magnificent Newcastle gig in the car (thanks to the rippers and uploaders), and clocked the problem for me / IMO. it's Ian McCulloch.

"live" and with just James doing the song (apologies, yes i know Nicky is mumbling something in the background), i actually rather like the track.

a "just the band" version of the song as a single might not have made me feel quite so bad about the dent in my Credit Card.

There, tree and dog. HAPPY?

(Why there's a tree on a beach is another matter)

A bloke walking down a street bumping into people didn't hurt a certain Bittersweet Symphony did it? I could watch James pottering about all day anyway! Absolutely nothing wrong with Ian's vocal on the song. They sound amazing together!

The Verve video was painstakingly choreographed (Richard Ashcroft didn't just barge into random passers-by in a street and not get the shit kicked out of him). A camera worthy of filming a music video was used and Ashcroft looks like he believes in the song. The video actually has some meaning to it, a meaning that resonates with the song itself.

None of these things can be said of the SKON vid, which if anything WILL hurt the single by boring anyone who ever sees it and leaving the song guilty by association.

I suppose on the brightside, for all those who dislike the song's OTT production, you barely even notice it has a gospel choir when listening to it with that miserable excuse for an afternoon's work pissing all over its parade.

James still looks way cooler than Richard Ashcroft! Doesn't bore me!

The video has now amassed a whopping 753 views on YouTube. Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber have a lot to learn about mass communication from our Nicky.

SKON is obviously far superior a video in terms of ideas and production compared to that lazy effort by Lady Gaga.

I really wanted the tree and dog motif too

As it stands, the tree/dog segment of the Mementos DVD has far more poignance for me than the SKON video.

Maybe it's supposed to be the first walk you go on after your dogs died? And all the sad memories come back.

Nah, I'm not seeing it. Unless Mac is saying to James "do you want to see my puppies?".
