Met them a couple of times....

First time I gave Nicky a large number of poems, was before lifeblood (really fan thing to do, young and a bit silly there was no odes to Richey in there mind, Mostly about clouds and war) to this day Solitude Sometimes Is sounds familiar but most of that poetry was pretty poor and I chucked it.

Anyhow second time I met them James was really chatty and we had a long chat about bands we were enjoying at the time, I had interviewed the support before the show for my university magazine(The delays), and he had noted me before the show.

Wait, are you saying Nicky stole your poems for his lyrics? You should sue him over royalties!

Delays as in "threw your lego in the lake"-Delays? (Or "threw your leg off in the lake, why'd you wanna go do that for?" - yes, why indeed?) I loved their first album! Met them, too, really nice - although it was their merch guy Ted who impressed me the most. ;-) Did they go down well with the Manics and the Manics crowd?

And I'm really impressed by the fact that the band (esp. James) actually seem to remember the faces of people they meet. I mean, they probably meet so many new people every day, I'd imagine that after a while you just automatically stop being too perceptive about who's who.

The delays were lovely. After doing 8 gigs on that tour, I got hugs from them...mostly I think because I was travelling with the crazy people who did all (12?) gigs on that tour.

Me too. I saw them in Bergen and James told me off (semi-jokingly) for travelling over to see them. I figure they have a dossier on everyone.

I met them outside the Edinburgh Corn Exchange after a gig a few years back. Sean had a photo taken with me, asking me to duck down because I'm "a tall bugger" (his words). James spotted me next and waved as though he knew me, reached over the barrier and shook my hand, thanking me for coming to the gig. Finally, Nicky came over and gave me a huge hug, told me a story about how he'd been to buy makeup somewhere in Edinburgh but left because "the staff were giving me the arse" and then had his picture taken with me.

met james at kerrang radio during promo for TGW and he did a short solo show and meet n greet afterwards - got copies of faster/pcp and revol vinyls signed (mint I might add).

James commented its been a long time since he heard them and doesn't own copies himself. Safe to say I resisted the non-existent urge to say "here jimbo, have mine"

I was there too Martin O'Neill had just taken over at Villa and he told me about how jealous he was and wishes that one day he would become Forest manager!

Unless you count Sean saying "thank you" after signing something of mine, then no.

I met them at a signing tent at Leeds in 2008. I was last int he queue so had a bit of a chat. I've got my Nicky signed lyric covered shirt on my wall. I told JDB that the only reason I'd stayed the last day was that The Manics were playing (which was true) that playing the intros to PCP and Sleepflower at the last gig I'd seen them at (on the Lifeblood tour) was taking the piss and it really annoyed me. I'm sure he was fascinated.

It was a strange day that one. I lost a wallet with £300 in it.

I met James very briefly after sneaking into a soundcheck at Brighton Dome. Saw him do Black Flowers and Yes on acoustic guitar from the side of the stage. Then when the soundcheck was finished the sound engineer assumed me and my mate were the support band and said, "Alright lads, we'll do yours in half an hour." Without thinking, "Ok, we'll just go and chat to the Manics for a bit" came out of my mouth and we ended up in their dressing room. I was just talking to James about how Yes has always been my favourite Manics song and asking him if he was going to play it that evening when security got wise and kicked me and my mate out. Lovely chap, really friendly and looked very apologetic when we got chucked out.

I had the absolute pleasure of interviewing JDB at the Glasgow Barrowlands during THB tour. He is easily one of the nicest people I have ever met and by a country mile the nicest musician I have ever spoke to.v
