is.

The sample was taken from a live version of a Skids song that appeared on a Skids compilation CD. Maybe there was a royalties issue but it could've just been to save space on the CD or just that the producers of the CD thought it was knaff to have a leery Scot proclaiming to speak politics.

It's an unsung line in the written lyrics to "All we Make is Entertainment" seen in the deluxe booklet.

It was a throwaway in the sense that it was just for a charity album and unlike Suicide is Painless wasn't released as a single and doesn't get played live or hasn't even been mentioned since. Even Raindrops which was on the last War Child compilation was done live by James a few times.

As for it being cliche: it was something totally different to Lifeblood and just about anything they'd done for years at least in terms of the words.

Hmm, chances are zero but I really would like to hear Leviathan live after having in a playlist over the last few days.

Would rather hear this live than Hazelton, Platitudes or You Stole The Sun From My Fucking Heart FOR THE MILLIONTH TIME.

Best Bradfield solo since 'Bateman' - discuss.

Don't put them off playing YSTS! Not until I get it at Birmingham anyway!

The Patrick Batemen song was one of the poorest attempts at metal by a band like this. It follows that the guitar solo is poor. Just standard generic cliche 80s metal kinda crap. It also sounds like Motorhead's WWF wrestler song The Game

i havwe very fond memories of when Leviathan was released, it was supposed to be the two year break and i hate breaks, but then we got Leviathan and then solo stuff so actualy it wasn't a break at all. James vocals are amazing on it and i think it is a shame it has kinda just dissapeared

If they played "Leviathan" on the upcoming tour, that might just be enough to get me to go.

Leviathan marked the beginning of a period of me losing interest in the Manics after ten years of being a fan. I absolutely loved Lifeblood, and the infamous 'our next album will be even more electronic' interview had me really excited. Then along comes what seemed like a fairly meat and potatoes sounding rock song on the Help album and I was totally deflated. Followed by SATT and then "we're using Richey's lyrics" on JFPL and I really felt like they'd gone massively backwards and lost it.

A couple of years later I gave JFPL a proper chance and loved it and I've been back on track since, but Leviathan falls into the SATT camp for me - something I'm happy to never hear again.

Ah well, still brilliant.
Even though it's (chronologically speaking at least) the bridge track between Lifeblood and SATT I've always included Leviathan on my SATT b-sides playlist because that's where it fits musically, lyrically and in tone.

Great wee track too.
