Kevin Carter is a brilliant song, I never get tired of it, but I've noticed a lot of people on this forum dislike it with an irrational hatred.

SYMM is also much underrated, and I imagine will be a lot of people's choice here.

I think Patrick Bateman is a truly terrible song, utter gash. Deserves to be deleted from existence. If the manics want to fund me, I'll personally go round everyone who has it and take it away.

Kevin Carter is utter gash. Musically and lyrically. Patrick Bateman is a novelty song, I don't listen to it at all.

It's not gash in the slightest, musically it's a highlight of EMG, lyrically it's quite interesting. The descending chords give it a tense air, the surprise of the beautiful trumpet solo counteracts the tension and brings relief, and the backing vocals afterwards elevate it above the norm.

I happen to think it's a rubbish overated song. It does nothing new musically and the addition of the trumpet solo is too much of a gimmick. The rest of EMG both lyrically and musically pisses right over Kevin Carter.

I'm glad someone stuck up for it. When the reviewers were laying into KYE, most of them singled out Let Robeson Sing as the album's saving grace (along with Ocean Spray). I'm surprised anyone on here could consider it a contender for worst Manics song.

Also, it's one of the few Manics tracks which doesn't feature the title anywhere in the lyrics, so it gets bonus points for that

it was actually on a lecture we had on Vietnam and the teacher could not remember who took the picture with the vulture in. I of course had to say it was Kevin Carter and there is a song based on it
