I'm so blown away by My Drowned World right now I'm literally DOUBLE POSTING about it. That chorus is everything I like about music. Low key yet epic, self-sufficient, gliding. The lyrics are super good too. Can't believe this is not on the album. Yeah, Blank Diary Entry and Bored Alone are all right, but this should be the penultimate track instead of both. Afterending follows perfectly off it. Also this finally shows inside the source of the album directly -- Nicky losing his parents. (The music on TUVL is all their parents' records, right.) What a missing piece. This raises the album from 4/5 to 4.5/5

heheh... the bit where the guitar line comes in for "The ice in the veins..." really does give one... chills

With all that said, I feel like I'm the only one who (slightly) prefers These Dark Roads so far! Both really good tracks though, I will happily use the Japanese edition as my go-to version.

It sounds great. I am wondering how much more
James could polish this melody.

I think so too, it makes perfect sense he would sing this and i'd be curious as to when he wrote it. Another track steeped in sadness along with an album full of them, really wish this was on the album.

Don't get me wrong, i think that's also a superb track with a sublime, effortless chorus and the lovely distorted guitar picking throughout and the solo.
It's just the sadness of nicky's song considering what he and patrick have had to go through edges past it for me and gives this whole tuvl period context, but it wouldn't have such impact if the music didn't fit it like a glove.

Oh These Dark Roads is great. Hits the nail on the head with what they're going for with this album, great logical chorus... but yeah it's not My Drowned World. By god that's sublime backing vocals in the chorus. I don't have my incisive headphones here maybe someone can say who the backing sounds like? Is it like 4 James' layered, one octave higher?

I noticed the bonus songs are on youtube. Both tracks are lovely. I wish Nicky's song would've been on the album, his voice is really insightful and cool. I think the music has a hint of Riders on the storm by the Doors. Beautiful songs.

As well as the Japanese popcorn, shouldn’t there also be some limited Gwenno branded popcorn to look out for too sometime? I believe it was in a 7” sized package with some albums?

These Dark Roads certainly has something of an “album closer” feel to it and I suppose they couldn’t have two of them (Afterending being the other)

My Drowning World is more of a Nicky B-side

Damn, popcorn would be nice though... Could put these into playlists, see how much better the album gets with this ending:

Complicated Illusions
Into The Waves Of Love
These Dark Roads
My Drowned World
Afterending

My Drowned World is a great Nicky song. I wonder if he felt it was too personal to go onto TUVL ?
The one thing that occured to me was that if they had recorded Everything Fades in a similar way it would have been absolutely huge (although I still love it on IKTZ).
