Sony wouldn't be paying him or any other independent filmmaker they didn't expressly hire to make a film. It's more likely to be a case of Sony not giving enough of a damn about the Manics anymore to bother executing a contract to allow him to pay them for the music rights to properly market it. That's why No Manifesto has never been on TV or had a proper wide release.
