British Sea Power as support, because i love them and if they had not been the support, I might have held out for an Irish date that never came.

Postcards being a hell of a lot better than i was expecting, despite it not even nearly touching Journals greatness. And boring sets aside, the band still being in great form live.

Meeting all those very friendly, cool as fuck manics fans in London.

EDIT: In a moment of madness i forgot to mention FD, which deserves a mention as it's a constant source of entertainment, as well as providing us all with news about the band etc. So thank you and good luck to the kind people involved in running this place.

  1. Vicariously following the gigs from the start of the year on FD.
  2. Getting up early to listen to the first single play and chatting about it in Marilyn's Vision Blurred chatbox.
  3. Getting and enjoying the album which I still like and gets better. (Some people hate it. I can see why, maybe my standards have fallen? You going to let this come between us?)
  4. Seeing them live. Would have seen more but... had a feeling his voice was going to go! But who would have entertained that idea?
  5. British Sea Power are better live as than the record.
  6. First and only time I ever watched "Strictly Come Dancing"
  7. Spending my Christmas going over possible tracklistings for the next best of when really I should be concentrating on my own life etc.

And for the first time, I've used the "list" option for this post!

Mosh pit at Cambridge Corn Exchange for me.
Being intoxicated on alcohol and screaming at James "I fucking love you ya Welsh cunt".
James laughing at me after screaming this.
Best night of my life.
Love the album.
The Mass Communication.
Fucking brilliant year.

Love it! hahaha

Must give a mention to the best gig moment for me, which has got to be James singing the guitar solo during Motorcycle Emptiness at Edinburgh!

  • Portugal. Pretty much everything about it.
  • Buying a guitar in a car boot sale, decorating it with stickers, and seeing it on stage for the rest of the tour.
  • Wayne. Chicken. Enough said.
  • Turkey kievs.
  • Meeting new people.
  • Seeing British Sea Power.
  • Discovering that acoustic Ocean Spray, as played in Norwich, actually isn't that bad.

Winning tickets to the Hard Rock Cafe gig, even though it was postponed.

Getting VERY excited when the tour was announced and immediately buying tickets for Brixton only for it to be postponed.

Joining FD, which has been a good experience!

Trekking round Wales to visit Manics (and Doctor Who and Torchwood) spots

Finding the Mitch Ikeda photo book thing cheap in a second hand bookshop back in February.

Finally meeting other Manics fans through twitter/facebook/FD (though I'm yet to meet another fan in real life).

Attempting to stalk my mum's work colleague who apparently used to go to parties with JDB and Nicky when he lived in Wales (and failing).

The new album! I liked it Also, downloading 'I Know The Numbers', new favourite song!

It was an awesome year of manicsness for us antipodean fans!

For me it was:
  • a heady mix of shock, excitement, disbelief and jubilation as the Australia tour announcement came up on their website, disappeared, and then after a few anxious hours, reappeared
  • the best week ever, following the boys around australia - I never thought I'd see the day!
  • 3 amazing shows - each one better than the one before it - if that is even possible
  • meeting some awesome fellow fans
  • finally getting my picture taken with James where he's actually smiling!

- Seeing the Manics in Lincoln
- Meeting other fans and queuing along with some cool people
- Building my collection of Manics magazines from our Oxfam shop
- Buying the stickers from the merchandise stall and giving my Lag a Manics makeover.
- Taking my patches off my Nicky Wire jacket and putting them on a Military jacket with 'La Tristesse Durera' spray painted on the back.
- A man in Scarborough saw my jacket and started talking to me about how he has followed them since 1991 and he has a EMG bowling bag! Of which only 30 exist....weird.
- Hearing 'Stay Beautiful' as an acoustic live
- Having the chance to see Nicky attempt to cook!
