We should probably try and keep this on topic, otherwise there will be 10 pages before we get any news .

I agree with, but (and sorry for this)...

I think they're all fairly comfortable 'conquering' the UK yet again and that's cool by me so long as they keep playing!
I agree with this. I think the Manics have largely been quite lazy as a band (since about 2000). However, I guess they're at a stage now where they've achieved a large amount of success, and have wives and children, and just don't want to be traipsing around the UK and other countries for months on end. Which is fair enough.

Don't get me wrong, they have improved in recent with their 20+ date UK tours in 2007 and this year and the America tour, of course, was a massive thing for them (and the fans) especially considering their track record over there. James said himself that it's not worth their while playing in places like Italy as there would be "only about 20 people there", so if they don't have to, I don't really see why they would. It's not like they're spring chickens after all.

I appreciate that this must be hugely frustrating for fans outside of the UK, and I really do sympathise. I do feel very fortunate to live in the UK around Manics tour time, but I wouldn't mind being in Italy or somewhere for the rest of the year.

When they do go abroad (and I use that term very loosely), their smaller fanbase means they play really small places which bloody rocks!
Indeed, the two America shows I went to were fantastic, and had some of the best atmosphere's of any Manics gig I've been to.

How can you have a roll call for a gig that doesn't officially exist yet?! For all we know it could be a gig for record company execs or invited guests only or a private gig for Richey and his new hippie friends.

Nothing hugely new, but I thought I'd mention it.

There's about 4 websites reporting but it's all exactly the same wording with no new info, I really do think the press are stalking this forum

http://www.spinnermusic.co.uk/2010/0...on-launch-gig/

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/music/ne...in-london.html

http://www.xfm.co.uk/news/2010/manic...m-launch-party

come on XFM surely you can spread more light than that!

It's just more cost-effective for them to play festivals in Europe, rather than tour. They're guaranteed a crowd, PR and above all else, payment, plus they only have to stay on the road for two or three days at a time, lessening the running costs.

Absolutely. I think that most people would agree that a festival set isn't quite the same as a Manics headline show though.

The upside of the overseas festivals is that they are a million times better (and cleaner) than British festivals while usually costing less...even if the setlists aren't as varied (and I use the word 'varied' very dubiously) as a tour set. Plus you get the justification of 'I'm not just going to see the Manics, I'm seeing other bands too'.

I would like to see them play somewhere like the Paris Olympia though.

XFM will announce that they have the news first, and probably do, except they won't report it until everyone else had because they want to build suspense
