Did they play EMG? You know, I watched some of the dvd tonight from the SATT 10th anniversary and I remember back i 2007 thinking that EMG was pretty flat live, that they had it no energy to it and it lacked passion. Watching that 2007 performance tonight I thought it was pretty decent although it still lacked James' '-AAAATION!' bit at the end and he still does a high end girly voice like now, but these days EMG has really got super flat and, although I love the song, they need to give it a rest live. Hope the gig went well though and they win over a few new fans!!

My theory is they play EMG as it is in the key of E. Like the majority of the songs they seem to play in these shows:

IB
ME
YSTS
NSAF
EMG
DC
HMLAH...all in E

But it's likely just coincidence. I think they just play the songs they like.

Eugh, Wayne Murray backing vocals needlessly high in the mix again...

Sounds like a bit of a damp squib all round. GNR went off before 10pm because Axl’s voice was wrecked.

If only this could have happened in 1993 instead of the Bon Jovi show.

Axl sounded awful on the videos I watched online. So glad I didn't stump up the €400 this trip would have cost me. But not as glad as my other half!

You have to love GNR's keyboard player though. The Manics need to get one like her.

So, a disappointingly safe set list - I was hoping for a curiosity or two to fit with the metal theme of the day. James seemed a tad nervous - started to explain Nicky's absence before realising halfway through that barely anybody knew who he was talking about. ADFL was introed as a Welsh drinking song, and I think SnB was for those who came to see them at a German show many years ago,but don't think there were any other between song chat.

From where I was (pretty central, about five routes back from the barrier in the cheap section) I could only see one other person really going for it (a blonde girl in the barrier slightly to the left of me). Despite fully going for it myself I couldn't get those around me to get involved. The crowd seemed fairly appreciative though, even though it didn't feel like they had been converted or had recognised any of it. I guess it must be strange for the band in the situation - it must be a long time since they've played a gig to an audience not familiar with their work.

That said, I was expecting a Berlin audience to have been properly up for GNR, but felt it was very flat - whether it was because it was a Sunday, or the scorching weather or the terrible sound mix I don't really know. The only song they went properly crazy for was Sweet Child o Mine - they need to stop feeling GNR t shirts and ones that just say "I'm here cos I like Sweet Child o Mine". Having seen them in London, Paris and Berlin over the past year I'm slightly surprised the French audience was significantly better than the others!

It was a slightly short set than what I saw last year (twenty four songs versus thirty in Paris - although with the likes of Estranged, November Rain, Rocket Queen, etc that's still a very long set), not sure if that was the plan or they cut it few songs on the night. Was slightly surprised there was no You Could Be Mine and disappointed Coma was axed after it sounded so brilliant before. But to hear them perform Slither (first time they've served performed any Velvet Revolver) was pretty special.

Thanks for these updates LA ex. As a massive GN'R and Manics fan, I'm very grateful for any information about these gigs. I hope you enjoyed them. I absolutely FUCKING LOVED seeing GN"R last summer (London Stadium June, 17) - best gig of my life, so to follow all the updates about the Manics supporting GN'R is amazing. I just wish Nicky could have been in a better place to enjoy it more. And I also wish Sean and James all the best. It must have been heartbreaking to open for your heroes with your best mate and colleague not being able to make it for personal reasons. Also knowing that he would have had one of the best nights of his life if personal circumstances had been different. All of love and hugs, Nicky if you're reading this x

They've supported Foos and Paul McCartney in recent years

This video of YLAINE in Berlin has Sean either losing a stick or something else happening at 2:21. I watched it once and was thinking "That didn't sound right at all" so played it again and you can just about see something not right for two seconds. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0MK27alPbRw

Wasn't the Foos in 2008 and McCartney in 2010? I probably wouldn't class that as recent. Also those gigs were in Cardiff weren't they, whilst I'd argue the Foo Fighters are of a similar era to the Manics. Were the Manics big enough in Germany for 'radio fans' to know their stuff?

No JDB guest spots on any of these gigs then?

Not so far, and I'd be very surprised if he did one at the last date. According to the wiki page the only people to have guested on the previous legs of the Not in this lifetime tour have been Dave Grohl, Angus Young, Steve Adler, Sebastian Bach (Skid Row), Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top), Pink and Angry Anderson (most famous of course for the Scott and Charlene wedding song!) Unfortunately we've got to be honest and admit to a non-British audience and in terms of overall legacy JDB isn't in the same league as those (although I'm shocked they let Pink on stage with them).
