It is so strange to think of those unexpected little wrinkles in people's taste in music. (I would also say "unfortunate", because they usually keep one from enjoying something beautiful) Would it really be so hard for you to let yourself like this little gem? To think yourself around to it somehow? You really are missing something beautiful in 4 Lonely Roads. To me, it's just so... classic! And so enjoyably distant in a way, one of the few RTF tracks that isn't a massive emotional undertaking to listen to.

Such beautiful lyrics ("the terror, it has flown") from such a distant, sleepy little delivery. How it fits the album like a little jewel, the perfect missing piece, is RTF's compositional mastersroke. Really brings the whole "different singers" concept together, bravely I would say, as there's practically no manics singing on it. Yet it makes the album that much wilder and more varied. And that bass! That delicate bouncy bass and those unexpected little turns of rhythm (1st chorus to 2nd verse).

Positively delightful, really. Has made my day and will make many a day to come.

And this is from a guy who has practically survived the last decade listning to kent and the Manic Street Preachers. I probably live a thousand kilometres from where you do. For you to like both those bands - and not 4 Lonely Roads! no! not this one! fuck this one!- is just... well, I guess coincidences run out of coincidence at some point

Another random thought: she's at Dublin, now, that means - if she really only joins 2 gigs - I'll have at least one CLB-free Manics gig!!!
Oh aye, I'll have to get the vinyl soon. And all the other ones, only got Everything Must Go out of the reissues. It's like a nervous tick that won't go away.

I don't mind Four Lonely Roads though, it's pleasant enough. Not many less Manic songs that they've done though. It kinda reminds me of something by The Smiths that I'm sure is on Louder Than Bombs but I can't think what off the top of my head, one of the daft little quaint twee things. Eh, I'm glad we got it last night though if for no other reason to cross it off my list of Manics songs I've seen live. Same reason I'm glad I saw The Descent, even though it's shite.

Manics fans are weird. Bless us. Been to a lot of gigs and keep seeing faces and thinking I recognise them but I convince myself that I don't. Wonder what's ruder, to mistake someone for someone else or to not acknowledge someone you probably should recognise. Near enough every time I see someone off here for the first time, if they say owt it's always running at the back of my mind oh fuck how much of a tit have I made of myself on FD? Eh, you don't have to have mental health and socialising problems to be a Manics fan but it helps

I bought TIMTTMY second hand and got home took the vinyl out of the sleeve and there was EMG inside. The inside sleeve with the lyrics and all. NO, not complaining! <3

4 Lonely Roads and Manorbier (specifically the "choruses") still the only tracks not to work at all for me from RTF. 4LR is admittedly the better of the two but it just doesn't fit the album. The demo's the same - it's essentially a Nicky solo track and just doesn't work at all for me in the context of the album. Not only is it stylistically different, it's a bit less good than the rest.

Glad others are enjoying it but for me I could quite happily never hear it again.

4LR is the one that keeps popping in to my head at the moment!

Still no sign of mine...

I think we're all like that I am mega like that. Every time I've met someone from here (or in life generally, actually) I spend hours afterwards feeling like I made a complete tosswit of myself.

Recognising people at gigs gets awkward though, because do you know them because you've actually met them, or just seen them in the crowd many times, or seen their photos on FD, or something. And I'm terrible with names, too, which doesn't help.

Speaking of it, last semester I had to meet with a girl I haven't seen for the whole holidays. We were messaging each other and arranged the time and place and all. I went to the place to wait for her, she actually came in time, but guess what, I didn't recognise her, I had completely forgotten about her face, and she didn't notice either me as she was talking with someone else. Then this person left and the girl kind of stayed waiting for a few seconds until she turned her head and saw me right besides her.

In mine too. No specific reason. Of all of the Manics songs I've been hearing recently, all day, all the time since yesterday this Four Lonely Roads keeps carving in my brain.

Weird! Picked up a couple of Manics-y things that have been in wrong cases etc, seen loads of ebay listings. Wonder what the hell happens to the proper packaging.

Yeah, it's weird isn't it? Also, spending any time on here you pick up names of people you've never really spoke to, feels a bit stalkery to be referring to people by their names when you've not really introduced.

After this I feel genuinely guilty for disliking the song so much! And that I didn't notice you posting this. Will get the vinyl for my b-day, so CLB gets a chance to "Wow" me, promised! Besides, whereabouts do you live, if you don't mind me asking?

Yeah, it is a bit peculiar really.
