Don't take it personally. Don't you all have the same sentiment over bands you only casually listen to? I think Coldplay and U2 all sound the same.

My girlfriend said the exact same thing the other day. When I gave her a funny look, she tried to worm her way out of it, saying they all sound the same "in a good way".

My wife was similar. She'd only heard the singles after 96. She still doesn't understand EMG but she loves THB and JFPL.

I'm taking that as a win.

Why is it a problem? They all sound like Manics songs, yes. Just like all Clash songs sound like The Clash, Cure songs sound like The Cure, Smiths songs sound like The Smiths. Atomic Kitten songs sound like Atomic Kitten.

If I want something which sounds different I believe there are several other bands.

And no one song sounds exactly the same as another unless it's a cover that is exactly the same as the original. Even then the singers are different.

From a certain point of view you could argue that the majority of present day Manics songs hit on repetition of verse/chorus/verse/chorus/solo/chorus/chorus but that could be said of 90% of musicians in the world today. The manics need and will always need a hit single.
