Not really. I would expect him to attend a gig with me, though. As I would attend a gig for his favourite band. But I'm pretty flexible and like a lot of bands.

I would have to say no, but they would have to respect my undying devotion to them

In a way it might be better for them to not like them so much as then I could go to the gigs by myself, which I prefer. But I'm just odd.

For me it wouldn't matter, but it would help if they did.

I had been going to see the Manics for about a year and a half before I met Kev and he seemed cool with it. He does now and again moan about the amount of gigs I go to etc, but on the whole he's cool about it. Kev's a bit of a britpop/indie kind so we do like similar music though he is more into Pulp/Oasis/The Jam etc - he'll always go to one gig on the tour though and he's very good about accompanying me to the interviews which I couldn't do if he wasn't there. He likes the "staples" as well, DFL, ME, YSTS, YLAINE etc..

I think that is kind of the stage me and my hubby are at now, he likes to go to one gig to hear the hits, but he's not so keen on the new stuff. Then it's off on my own to any other gigs, which he does moan and sulk about but i only went to two others this tour without him and I don't think I would do much more than that due to having kids and stuff

My dear wifes taste in music is dire. She does not like the Manics. I'm fairly pleased about that.

My wife isn't a fan, but she doesn't really mind them (hell, she even had
TIMTTMY before we met). The one thing she doesn't like about them though
is James' voice.

But we went and saw them in L.A. on our honeymoon last year and she
had almost as great a time as I did. We had a very large amount of beers
before the show mind...

I've been out with two girls who liked the Manics.

One of them only has a vague understanding of them but chooses to lie in my presence and claim to be obsessive. I bumped into her on the recent tour and she was talking shit about how they'd been opening with A Design For Life and playing Faster acoustic on this tour. "That's simply not true, please stop this nonsense, it's quite embarassing."
She then went on to tell many lies about Blur, which was equally as embarassing.
You know how when you're on a bus/train, and someone sat nearby is talking utter, utter bollocks, but you're unable to actually grab them by the shoulders, shake them and scream "YOU'RE JUST WRONG!" Yeah it was like that.

I bought a Lifeblood tour shirt that was too small for me that another ex-GF of mine decided to steal. She looks amazing in it, and I'm not sure if it's because of the fit or the fact that it's a Manics shirt. Anyone else felt this strange phenomenon?

My last girlfriend was into dubstep, dance and a bit of terrible indie, didn't stop us getting on, until she turned into an absolute dickhead.

as long as he doesn't hate them/respects my feelings/doesn't moan about them all the time - it doesn't matter.
of course having a fan partner would make the things much easier, he would understand my expenses, craziness, would go to the gigs and so on. but if he didn't hate Nicky, didn't mind the songs, accepted the way I love the band, then I don't care what he listened to (as long as it isn't R.E.M. joke )
but naturally, in a relationship people should have a few common interests, right?

the only other problem with your partner sharing your obsession is that tours cost twice as much in tickets and travel, which is ok if youre rich i guess, but in my case we are not

driving to and from gigs instead of trains and hotels saves a bit of cash..i know a couple who do that but it must be exhausting

Doesn't really matter but in this case she does. Music's a massive part of my life and we do have pretty similar tastes, although she hates Radiohead, so it works out.

And this is why I am broke all the time as I always have a gig buddy and so can blow all my money on gig tickets.

My girlfriend is vaguely interested and was very understanding and supportive of my tour going last month, she even came and collected me from the stations and didn't mind me saying 'I'm going to Southampton and staying on someone's floor' 2 days before the gig. She likes the bits that I've played her but I try not to go on about it too much. It means a lot to me that she understands and she wants to see them some time so enxt tour we will definitely go to one gig together.
