Yeah, this will be the longest gap between releases of new albums. Lifeblood - SATT was less than three years. Postcards - Rewind the Film was three years I think.

Well, it was over 3 and a half years between KYE and Lifeblood (19th March 2001 to 1st November 2004).

We're spoiled with 2 albums in a really short space of time ... 3-5 years is the average for most bands ... I'd prefer a spring release for a new album ... better weather for touring

The next album will be released in the spring of 2018 and will be a rock-infused reggae double album about Brexit.

Personally, I do not want anything on the next album especially regarding the farce that is Brexit.

There's no chance we're getting a record before late 2017, so it'll be the longest gap between studio albums - also bearing in mind we had Forever Delayed and Lipstick Traces between KYE and Lifeblood, which gave us eight new songs.
But we're hurtling towards the 30th anniversary of Suicide Alley, and there aren't that many bands putting out regular albums at this point in their career. Even new acts have three year gaps between records these days, so the fact we've had five albums and a compilation in the last ten years is pretty good going for a band of the Manics' age. |

Don't worry, they don't really do current politics.

It's just not needed at this stage in the career - every fucker is writing about Brexit in some way or another. I really hope the Manics can just say "No, we've decided against riling against the establishment and just want to write good songs outside of politics".

I remember them saying something similar around the time of Lifeblood when every band was writing anti-Bush songs. They got back into politics though by the time of Postcards (Auto-Intoxication, Golden Platitudes, the title track).
