Good shout Porco, I just overlooked this myself. I'd place it similarly.

I wasn’t sure whether to include it but I thought ‘why not?’. I do really like it, but obviously it’s a bit of a weird one compared to the others, and the lyrics leave a lot to be desired

2nd last! You're a harsh critic Porco, damning an album with great praise!

In fairness I'd put it 2nd last as well, only because from the interviews it sounds like James made an effort to make it a soundtrack, which is more that can be said PFAYM.

I've been looking forward to this.
Still probably too early for tuvl but I'll give it a go.

The Holy Bible
Everything Must Go

This Is My Truth..
Journal For Plague Lovers
Know Your Enemy
Generation Terrorists

Futurology

The Ultra Vivid Lament
Send Away The Tigers
Postcards...
Resistance Is Futile
Rewind The Film
Lifeblood
Gold Against The Soul

The bottom seven are fairly interchangeable. If you ask me again in a month, it will probably be different but this is today's order.

It always feels harsh putting any of their records at the bottom of the list. GATS is a great album.

Suspect tuvl will fall over time but enjoying it at the moment.

I freely admit this is very much influenced by the fact that I haven't loved a new Manics album this much for ages, and I may always not rank TUVL so high, but here goes:

1. Lifeblood
2. The Ultra Vivid Lament
3. Send Away The Tigers
4. Gold Against The Soul
5. Futurology
6. This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours
7. Know Your Enemy
8. Everything Must Go
9. The Holy Bible
10. Journal For Plague Lovers
11. Generation Terrorists
12. Resistance is Futile
13. Postcards From A Young Man
14. Rewind The Film

Pretty much off the top of my head, asking myself which albums I most enjoy listening to right now, and which I rarely reach for. Hence the low placing for THB and JFPL - they are great albums but I just can't listen to them very often.

1. Holy Bible/Lifeblood (I really can't decide)
2. Truth
3. Journal
4. Generation Terrorists
5. Everything Must Go
6. Send Away The Tigers
7. GATS
8. RIF
9. Futurology
10. KYE
11. Postcards
12. Rewind the Film
13. The Ultra Vivid Lament - I'm trying my very best to get into this record, but I just can't connect with the majority of it.

In truth 2,3 and 4 are all equally good with Journal just behind. I'm finding the new album baffling. Can't decide whether its utterly bland or pretty good. At least its not RIF or PFAYM.

Orgiastic masterpieces:

1. The Holy Bible
2. Everything must Go
3. This Is My Truth, Tell Me Yours

Very good records:

4. JBD's Even In Exile
5. Generation Terrorists
6. The Ultra Vivid Lament

Good records:

7. Futurology
8. Send Away The Tigers
9. JDB's The Great Western
10. Resistance Is Futile
11. Journal For Plague Lovers
12. Gold Against The Soul

Decent records:

13. Know Your Enemy
14. Lifeblood
15. NK's I Killed The Zeitgeist
16. Rewind The Film

Mediocre records:

17. Postcards From A Young Man

...

In the end I've to highlight, that the Manics have never released a really bad record to date. And there are not many bands or solo artists, who can claim an oeuvre on standards, that have been always above average. The only other artists that come to my mind right now are: Talk Talk, Leonard Cohen, Jacques Brel, Léo Ferré, Joy Division and Kate Bush.

Other outstanding artists had great phases in their careers, but have released nevertheless some pretty awful albums, such as David Bowie, Scott Walker, Depeche Mode and Roxy Music, Neil Young, The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Bob Dylan and so on...

Actually, that's not true. Sigh. I'm still into The Ultra Vivid Lament to focus.
