Manic Street Preachers Go Acoustic For New Album?

added 17 May 2013 at 17.15

Plus, there's a bit of an "Elvis vibe" for the first single, says James Dean Bradfield...
James Dean Bradfield has told Xfm the next Manic Street Preachers album is nearly finished.. and has a more acoustic sound.
Speaking at the Ivor Novello Awards in London last night, the singer claimed: "It's slightly strange, there's barely an electric guitar on the record. [However], the band is still driving the songs."
The band's last album, Postcards From A Young Man, was released in 2010 and following the greatest hits compilation, National Treasures they claimed that they'd be taking a "long time" off.
However, with dates planned in Australasia in June and July, it appears that Manics HQ is starting to get into gear for the new album… complete with a first single already pencilled in.
James told Xfm: "The first single kind of feels like a mix between Exile On Main Street era Rolling Stones and Vegas Elvis with lots of brass and horns on it. So we've gone to a bit of a funny place."
James presented The Maccabees with the Best Contemporary Song Award for their work on the track Pelican.

Oh God, James has taken over the Nicky duty of saying new material sounds like various insanities.

Looks like we're getting the acoustic album first then!

Happy to hear about there actually being a single. Hopefully this means b-sides too.

James told NME that it wont be "bongos round the camp fire" and that there are some darker songs on the album! which makes me look forward to this a lot more

I'm guessing the single will have a "Tumbling Dice" feel about it.

Talk of brass and horns worries me slightly. But still looking forward to hearing something new.

We joke, but that's not a bad idea. One Nicky side to the album, one James side, and a single or two of each.

So basically it sounds like they're doing what they planned to do in 2001 - two albums, one acoustic and one more aggressive. Back then they just squashed them together and made 'Know Your Enemy'. Also James has been talking for ages about making a 'Nebraska'-type acoustic album.

And while I'm generally less excited by acoustic than electric, the idea of horns on a Manics record (after using gospel choirs on 'Postcards') is right up my street.

^^ Precisely what I was thinking. Always thought it was a shame they didn't have the courage of their convictions to make KYE a 2 part record. I'm hopeful for the 'acoustic' record though especially if it has moments like their 'Out Of Time' cover on it

Do you think the horns/brass content mean that Sean has had a strong input and plays on it a lot? God we might even get a live brass section from Sean (getting totally carried away now)

I'm a sucker for a horn section and love bands that have used that style of music really well in the past. just want to hear something now. Roll on September...
