Btw: here's a picture of the setlist I got after some serious persisting from a member of the security staff.

Basically put, Sean has a click in his ears with the backing tape on (I'm not sure who starts it) which gives him a click to bring the rest of the band in for the song which the samples in time. Instead, he clicks them in 1-2 rather than 1-2-3-4 which he normally does. This obviously catches them all by surprise as James is expecting 4 clicks, which is why he doesn't start playing.

That means, Sean must have missed the first cue point (for whatever reason) as the sample finishes after the band.

No probs. Most bands have this kind of tech these days, if you see an earpiece especially for the drummer, it often means one song in the set at least is on a click.

To clarify slightly better than I did, what Sean should have heard was something like 1-2-3-4 (then he clicks the next 1-2-3-4) along with the tempo to bring the boys in at the start of the song nicely synced up with the backing track.

I think however the Manics dubious views on automated technology will only be heightened by this latest escapade!

I'm sure Sean does it on purpose to put James off!

The only thing that might be his fault (and I'd have to get literally onstage to find this out ) would be to find out if he triggers the backing track. Looking at the footage, I can't see him obviously start it.

Then again, it's not the first time. Just the first 2 non-starts.

Sound's like in that case he ended the song even though clearly it was the start so.... something is a gremlin in his system whatever it is that he uses, and it means it can fuck up royally (as all synth backing tracks can it has to be said.)
