Nicky Wire at Occupy Cardiff-related event March 28th
As mentioned in the random Manics appearances thread, this is now confirmed by the organisers (although not sure if Wire's mentioned it himself yet) EDIT: Has now confirmed will NOT be attending.
'Party Loud and Party Proud: Shit hot tunes and guest appearances. Defend the right to protest in association with Occupy Cardiff - 'changing the world one beat at the time!'' (sic) Includes 'open mic featuring Nicky Wire', plus (oddly) Welsh rugby legend Barry John and the Archbishop of Wales. People are meeting at the Aneurin Bevan status at the Castle end of Queen St at 5.30 and moving to a 'secret outdoor location' which I believe is somewhere outside the Castle itself. This is as much as I know, see the Occupy Cardiff facebook for more details.

But on the Facebook page there is a pic of Nicky Wire on the event poster - bit sad as its obbiously not true and seems it was never gonna be the case judging by Nicky's post on Twitter

Nicky Wire, pricky liar, who still claims he doesn't read the internet. that's why I should abandon the Appreciation 4ever.
well, the poster and the fuss around it just shows the lack of credibility to the organisers. in fact I don't remember if the Manics themselves got involved into something straight political issue, maybe except Cuba, political lyrics, and 2 actions to save the bar in Cardiff (afaik) and Spillers store. I remember though that Nicky's mum was in sort of ecological action, against cutting down trees or something. I don't remember the details, google it if you want it.

Sounds like someone at Occupy Cardiff looked at the huge turnout Occupy Wall Street got from the rumour about Radiohead...
I call shenanigans. |

Appears my disclaimer that Wire hadn't confirmed it himself was warranted after all. Oh well. I'll try and find out from a friend how the organisers managed to make such a hash of that.
Not sure if Barry John and the Archbishop of Wales have confirmed themselves on Twitter yet....

well knowing from my experience, if Nicky says something it's not true, it turns otherwise. so I wouldn't completely give up on the idea of him appearing out there lol

Yeah, they're absolutely full of it. 'Political' my ass! In the 1980s the CIA backed a series of concerts in hearing distance of the Berlin Wall and also some within the Eastern Bloc itself, all designed to lure citizens into succumbing to the spectacular society they had been missing out on in the East. The Manics trip to Cuba was much the same, backed by a huge corporation and some top politicians at the time (Peter Hain, etc). The Manics are phoney, they are liberal multi-millionaires. Wire should have been honoured to have had his image roped-in on this classic ruse. Last edited by Cola Di Rienzi; 27-03-2012 at 14:01. |
