I really like it, though it's still not got 'hit' written all over it
horns are sounding awesome, but agree that the chorus is a bit messy

They've pretty much said that it's the only upbeat song on the album.

I've just listened to both songs back to back in the car, the way they will be on the album (if the track list remains unchanged) and at once they don't gel AND sound as if they compliment each other. They actually do work together in a strange way. I'm really intrigued by this little window into the album and want more! Doesn't sound like anything the Manics have done before, honestly.

*cough* a Talking Heads nod, not Talk Talk - first thing that jumped out at me, being one of my favourite songs and all

...that alongside the Cardigans lift also mentioned makes me think this may be quite a little patchwork quilt of paraphrased lyrical grabs... time to start getting that "MSP influences" chart out..!

It's alright - not terrible, not amazing. It's probably the best single they will release since Your Love Alone (although thats probably not saying much!).

These nice, quaint, radio friendly singles are fine and all but where are the manics that once could release singles like faster or revol? Isn't it time for a little edge?

I'm struggling with the trumpets to be honest, but will probably get over it. It actually would have fit on PFAYM.

Yeah, I somewhat agree. I mean, I don't expect them to release dark, raging tunes all the time especially at this stage in their career, but a little less horns would be nice as would a little more originality. Someone mentioned Motown/white boy soul and this song sounds nothing like that style. This is 'wall of sound/Burt Bacharach done really rather poorly. Hey, I'd love it if they tried a bit of 'white boy' soul instead of seemingly always playing the same card. It's just a really cringeworthy song. At least Rewind the Film is class despite the terrible chorus. I'm still hopeful however that the album will be good based on the strength of the title track.

Is it though? Didn't Wire describe next year's album as "European" sounding? That terminology denotes techno to me, not thrashing guitars and a generally alt vibe.

Hey, maybe he meant European as in Swedish death metal. Now that would be friggin awesome! Ha!
