Autumnsong video(s)

I've just been watching the NT dvd again and Autumnsong makes me laugh so much, it could have been such a cool video had some thought gone into it but it makes no sense, half of the text that pops up doesn't relate to the lyrics being sang (apart from the first ones that pop up, so it just seems stupid) and that girl's face expressions when she's with her friends and then getting shouted at by her dad or whoever are hilarious!!! haha! Go check it out again and see what I mean.
And the 2nd video with the SATT girls miming badly again could have been interesting but sadly is just bad.
Still, it's a good song

From what I've realized since I've started posting here, "Autumnsong" is Justin Bieber of this forum!

Autumnsong is FABULOUS! Haterz gonna hate!

I actually like both the vids to it. The one with the youngsters in it is the better of the two though! It's just a bit of fun innit?

Imagine Justin Bieber doing a COVER of Autumnsong.

This forum would collapse!

As much as I love and respect Everlasting, this is banning territory.

Justin Bieber one day - quite by accident - might do something halfway decent. yes, quitting music or for the more extreme of you dying in a bizarre gardening accident would qualify as "something halfway decent". Autumnsong, alas, being etched in the most harshest, dullest and miserable of stone, exists as a constant and thus can never ever be erased nor redeemed or be seen as "good". if only the band had simply gone to a Church service (any denomination) and waved their cocks about at the congregation it would have had less embarrassing results for both them and the fanbase.

the only possible, remote redeeming thing one can say of Autumnsong is that it shows none to be perfect, that we can all make total and utter arses of ourselves and draw attention to our arsedom by releasing it as a single instead of leaving it on the album and hoping no one would notice, and yet we live in a world of love, and we shall continue to love and cherish those who sought full on arsehood from recording and releasing this song.

as for their decision to make two videos for the song, well, one can only assume that the mathematics worked out that doing so was somewhat cheaper, or if you will cost effective, than simply mailing a pile of shit, human or otherwise, to every single person who bought the record, including with it a note suggesting that one goes and purchases a loaf of bread and makes themself a nice sandwich with it.

i understand where proevpete is coming from, but please, do feel free to bring Autumnsong up in conversations and threads as much as you like; i have oodles more things i can say about the song, although not all of it is quite as pleasant as the above.

I like the solo and the chorus but it's the lyrics and the "straight-forwardness" of it that piss me off and I suspect many others.

What's wrong with 'straight-forward'?

The Manics aren't a straightforward band.

But let's analyse the lyrics

Wear your eyes as dark as night
Paint your face with what you like
Wear your love like it is made of hate
Born to destroy and born to create

This verse is bollocks. It is quite literally about nothing. Just rhyming words.

Now baby what've you done to your hair?
Is it just the same time of year
When you think that you don't really care?
Now baby what have you done to your hair?
Done to your hair done to your hair
Done to your hair done to your hair hair

Again, a verse about fuck all.

So when you hear this autumn song
Clear your heads and get ready to run
So when you hear this autumn song
Remember the best times are yet to come

A chorus about nothing.

Now baby what've you done to your hair?
Is it just the same time of year
When you think that you don't really care?
Now baby what have you done to your hair?

Wear your eyes as dark as night
Paint your face with what you like
Wear your love like it is made of hate
Born to destroy and born to create born to create

What the Jesus Christ Fuck? Verses 1 and 2 SWAPPED OVER? I can understand doing this for the demo when trying stuff out, but...!
Born to create born to create born to create

So when you hear this autumn song
Clear your heads and get ready to run
So when you hear this autumn song
Remember the best times are yet to come

Chorus about nothing again

So wear your hair in bunches
And your jacket loose
So when you hear this autumn song
Clear your heads and get ready to run

The first two lines sound like it's going somewhere, but... no, Nicky's back to writing obvious pop again.

So when you hear this autumn song
Clear your heads and get ready to run
So when you hear this autumn song
Remember the best times are yet to come

This Is Yesterday is an example of a simple and straightforward song that works.

They truly are the worst band in the world when they put their minds to it.
