I love The Joy Formidable and BSP and have since gone on to see them more times than the Manics.
PSB are the most interesting new band around. Mogwai, surely they were amazing right? Brilliant band. I half liked The Answering Machine, even have the album somewhere. New Young Pony Club at the Forum 2009, they were amazing, the album they were previewing was the best of 2010. I can understand the Ian Brown hate, not much cop live.

I really like some of his solo stuff. But he wasn't very good at playing it.

He still plays Stone Roses? He did some years ago on a solo gig here, people was quite bored until then. On the aftershow party the DJ played a SR song and Ian went straight to hit him and started shouting and crashing things around!

You could say that. That's all he's been playing for the past year...

I quite liked My Vitriol. The opinion I gather was not entirely widely shared.

If you go see him on his own he's actually alright, but I enjoy most of his solo stuff on record, so I probably would say that. Much of it is >Roses.

Ah ha, clearly I've been to the wrong gigs!!! If only I could have seen My Vitriol instead of... well, any of the support acts I've seen.
Someone's reminded me there, I saw the Delays and Cherry Ghost too. Both also shite.

My memory of the Ian Brown support is him going "CH CH CH!" into the mic a lot, then introducing "on the bongos, Goldfinger"... oh yeah, and a LOT of booing from the good people at the MEN arena.
As for Public Service Broadcasting... I wonder if one of them works for the BBC and has just raided the archives for footage and speech? Seems like just that with one of those old Casio keyboards and a repetitive drum beat over the top. I admit, I largely tuned out the noise by watching the TV at the back.

My favourite was the support that they had at the o2 for the National Treasures gig...

Very good point. Apart from Catatonia (December 1998), The Answering Machine (May 2009) and British Sea Power (October 2010), there hasn't been anything that great.
There was a guy standing behind me at the SECC gig in 2002 that was obviously a big Ian Brown Fan. He kept shouting "Oi oi!" and "Quality" through the entire performance! |

Sounds about right. I like a bit of Ian Brown, and the Stone Roses in particular, but Jesus, 90% of the crowd at a Roses gig are scallytastic! It's like a frickin anorak convention mixed with a Bez lookalike competition
