I went to see it last night.
I thought it was a bit rubbish tbh. It reminded me a lot of the Cuba DVD in that it made far too many cuts ( also like the Cuba DVD it included a few shots where it was just JDBs head and nothing else). Also, like the Cuba DVD there were also a few obvious bits where the pictures and the audio didn’t match up. Quite a few occasions where JDB clearly wasn’t playing the guitar and yet there were still guitar sounds on the audio. There was also LOADS of shots of the audience. I don’t mind it so much, but some of them were on it so often I’d have no problem picking their faces out of a line up in five years time. They also had close ups of Nicky Wire’s bass during the Archives of Pain and The Die in The Summertime guitar solos which was just poor camerawork/editing. Did Kieran say why?
Seems a lot of effort not to release it and to show it to a few people only. Understand that a digital release might not be financially viable (even though it would probably be well-received by music journos and casual Manics fans), but a digital release for a tenner or YouTube showing at least would be great. |

I just want the audio to be honest, the visuals weren't what those gigs were about. I'm happy to put some boots into my salt and vinegar crisps if someone was minded...
Muse did something similar last year, having a Cinema only release for a live gig. I wonder if there's much money left in live gig DVD sales these days? Not sure why a digital release would be off the cards. But Sony have been a bit tetchy about music on manic related video releases in the past e.g. No Manifesto.

Kieran said att he Q&A even Avengers doesn't sell on DVD. I imagine it's just not financially viable sadly.

Anyway, that doesn't explain why no digital release. They can sell his music videos on iTunes ok. I don't get it.

They could wait a bit ..couple years ... a year ...then just release it on YouTube for nowt. Or show it on sky arts or somewhere so more people can see it. The film was made ..is it just going to be kept in a cupboard or a hard drive gathering dust? There's lots of things released that don't make Megabucks. They really don't seem to value their own live shows much.

Are you suggesting he doesn't have the correct Disney sales figures Agreed, I can't see why a digital release isn't possible. Hell, even go exclusive to a streaming platform if it gets it out there like Foals and The National have done recently. |

It may also be a question of Sony willing to pay him for the effort he put into it. The impression I get is that Kieren's produced this off his own back. Hence there may be an issue of Sony/Columbia not coughing up the cash to pay him appropriately if the film was to be released in whatever form.

Seems like a waste of time then if maybe only a few people are gonna see this, but I suppose it's nothing ground breaking, really, is it? Tell them to make a full-on comprehensive movie, warts and all, all footage available, be candid, band, fans (like No Manifesto or even just use clips from that) and make it the most interesting and best music documentary movie ever made.

I'm going to see this in Newcastle hopefully, starts at 630, anyone know when it'd be over?
