Some of the songs are immediately good so this album for me doesn't have to be a grower!
However The Left Behind is immediately poo so that's a minus point

People Give in, Vivian, Sequels of Forgotten Wars and A Song For The Sadness are the standouts for me!
This album would sound amazing live, so let's hope A lot of the songs get played!

Isn't he spelling it out?

Too early to make a definitive judgement but after two listens, I’m saying it’s...okay. It’s fairly light, very much pop/rock, but there are some interesting melodies and the orchestration is up to the usual high standard that I expect from the lads. Repeat listens may reveal more.

People Give In reminds me of the vorticists with words. Sequels of forgotten wars sort of reminds me of smoke on the water. As for the left behind, well I don’t even know how it’s got on the album.

Right... lyrics... I'm on it.

Funny story to tell about track 7 lol.

Also the lyrics are brilliant. Album is brilliant. Took a few listens but now, properly brilliant, properly loving it.

Amazon apparently goofed up and made it available to stream the other day. Or it was a cunning guerrilla marketing campaign. One of those.

“Sequels Of Forgotten Wars” is the one track that really stands out to me so far. I really like it.

Perhaps it’s just me, but the guitar solo on “In Eternity” reminds me of a piece of music from The Legend Of Zelda: A Link To The Past. Trying to figure out now which piece of music specifically but there’s definitely that feel to it. Not a complaint, that’s my favourite console game of all time!

I love that too. Now play Genesis’ Turn It On Again!

In fairness I love the whole album, even the The Left Behind (would prefer it was James singing, but still, one of Nicky’s best vocals I think.)

Lol, it’s a fantastic song though! They are, both.

Hold Me Like A Heaven is my fave so far, though I think In Eternity, Sequels to Forgotten Wars, and the singles are close behind. And there is general loveliness all over the whole album, some of the background sound stuff is amazing.

Also, I’m 90% sure there’s some Sean backing vocals on A Song For The Sadness, which ironically makes me very happy.

Need to give it more listens, the bits that were in that initial sampler clip are the ones that stood out for obvious enough reasons. I dunno, maybe I was subconsciously waiting to recognise summat. Haven’t even listened to it in its proper order yet actually to be fair. No immediate impact for me so far, which is a first for a Manics record. When I first heard Lifeblood I didn’t love it but even at the time it at least gave me the impression wow Even the ones lower down my list, the songs I don’t particularly like, I at least remembered bits of em off the bat. Sitting here now, ten hours after me first listen, I can’t even think what half the songs sound like.

I’m sure after a few more listens I’ll start to pick me favourites but I bet the sods won’t play em, still haven’t touched me top three off last album.
