Sound wise not a million miles off TGW, but with added classical guitar bits. Not every song has it, some lean on the Chilean influence more than others

The lyrics are obviously more focused on a specific thing all round

The 7” of From the Atacama Dust is nice too

Seeing as no one is sharing I might as well tell everyone that it's on Deezer now, use a VPN like Speedify to connect to New Zealand.

Nothing for me today. I thought one of the three (!) orders I have coming might have made it a day early! Oh well. Still looking forward to it.

Heard it in full twice now and I've made a few notes about each of the songs (barring the three we already know about).

Recuerda - Quiet acoustic solo verses, bit Sullen Welsh Heart-esque. Killer chorus with a driving, pulsating rhythm (the first of which takes a bit of time to kick in), quite 80s sounding, could have fitted on RIF, Lifeblood or TGW quite easily. Lovely backing vocal harmonies and great solo.

Thirty Thousand Milk Bottles - Piano led minor key verses with pounding drums, very 70s prog sounding - reminiscent of MSP cover of Endless Plain of Fortune. Beautiful Harrison-esque slide guitar on the choruses - lots of distorted slide guitar fills throughout the song. You can hear an instrumental version of the chorus with the slide fills on JDB's podcast that plays over the intro of each episode and on the preview.

Under The Mimosa Tree - Picked acoustic beginning, reminds me of Sille Veb by Pete Ham - very tender sounding. Brass melodies sound almost identical to the chorus of ADFL (no joke). Song develops into something that could have been on Pet Sounds. Nice, but probably the weakest track on the album overall.

From The Hands Of Violeta - A track very much in the TGW style, in some ways a bit like The Wrong Beginning in terms of production - not too different from the Absolute Radio acoustic session. Again, some beautiful slide guitar, evoking Cloud 9 era George Harrison. A highlight of the album for me, really well produced with a lot of space for the song to breathe.

Without Knowing The End - Reminds me of something but can’t put my finger on what, I’ll kick myself when I find out. Some quite unsettling chords during the verses, that go quite well with the lyrics. There’s something slightly camp about JDB’s vocal delivery during the choruses. Not a massive favourite of this one.

La Partida - Very Ennico Morricone sounding, absolutely gigantic backing vocals on this. Really well done and just sounds massive in places. Up there with the very best instrumentals in the Manics catalogue.

The Last Song - Prog rock heaven. That’s the only way I can describe it, there’s so much going on in this song. Tempo, time signature changes galore. Absolutely love the chorus, which has a real swinging quality to it and a killer melody. The track really fits in well with the lyrics. Probably my favourite song on the album but a lot of people might dismiss it as overproduced nonsense.

Santiago Sunrise - Quite a slow track - the less mechanical brother of There’ll Come A War. Very tender vocal delivery, military style drums towards the end. Good song.

Quick question for those who have received some of their gear already.

I pre-ordered the signed CD and the album on iTunes. How do the five bonus demo codes work? Will they appear in iTunes or will I get a code sent with the CD directing me to a site?

I think they were an official site only thing

They could put a piece of paper in with the CD, with either a unique or shared URL, or they might email the person who ordered

Interestingly the vinyl didn’t include a download link like it normally does

This isn't directed at you because you may not know the answer but does that mean the facebook profile is entirely unaffiliated with this place? I always assumed the twitter account was but now i'm not so sure, that's where i've been getting the links to the interviews and such anyway. I'm a zucker vegan so will do anything not to visit that throwback to early 2000s websites.

It’s entirely affiliated as far as I can tell, my post wasn’t to suggest they weren’t

Enjoyable little interview with janice long i thought, sounded at times like they were a couple of pals having a chinwag over the phone. Great playlist choices as well from james.
