Despite the weak lyrics, I stand by S.Y.M.M. as a closer. Prologue's too upbeat, S.Y.M.M. is dark and spacious and has a brilliant David Gilmour-esque solo. Musically, I can't fault it.

Still, chuffed I've seen them do Prologue, not a frequent outing.

agree with Tracey - Truth is a masterpiece (apart from SYMM - kp)

Fair play to her. It's not often that you come across many people saying that Truth is a masterpiece bar one song. You have to take these things where you can

Musically I really like it but I was really uh, curious about the lyrical content. I actually didn't know what it was about until this thread (herp derp).

As a song, I love it.

The 'Everything' book might instruct loyal flock to dislike it, however.

Or plain old taste and a longing for decent lyrics on the subject matter.

+1.

It's not a song about Hillsborough, it's a song about how good a Manics song about Hillsborough could have been - if Nicky hadn't taken on a subject matter he clearly wasn't able to tackle and shouldn't have, based on what he came up with.

It's a shit lyric, and a crap down-note to end the album.

Although there were probably some people who admitted to not liking it because Everything made it more acceptable to admit it, and would otherwise have kept schtum. But I doubt anyone would say that hate it just because Simon Price does. I hope they don't anyway!

True, but 'The cat sat on the mat'

makes more sense than

'Who then devised the torment? Love.
Love is the unfamiliar Name
Behind the hands that wove
The intolerable shirt of flame
Which human power cannot remove.
We only live, only suspire
Consumed by either fire or fire.'

But, I know which I prefer.

I prefer the lyrics to SYMM over both of those!

there's really nothing wrong with the lyrics from SYMM. Especially when you compare them to Autumnsong...

I can't think, and I can't paint, I can't love!
And no one will, for money makes us up

Death to monetaries!
Death to monetaries!
