View Full Version : my sunday

Today was weird. I woke up at around 3 am/pm.. I don't know. I hate sundays, they make me feel like shit. This sunday started out like shit as usual. Waking up, feeling shit. However, I went down to my brother and asked him if he's got some kewl videos I could watch. He only had 'The Pledge' borrowed from a friend, so I said OK.

It's one of those movies you don't understand if your stupid I guess. Well, I'm not stupid, and it totally got to me. For those of you who don't know, it's a movie based on the novel by Friedrich Dürrenmatt, starring Jack Nicholson and some other fancy actors including a fantastic Robin Wright Penn. When I grow up I want to find a woman like her. It's pointless if I tell you the story as you have to see it yourself. It's the most fascinating movie I've seen since The Bear. However, it put me in the mood.

My parents are for holiday this weekend. So there was nothing proper to drink in this house. I drove to the next gas station and got myself some Thai flavoured chips and green tea. As I made myself on the way back home I figured I could actually do something more exciting than go home and sleep. So I went to that forest near me, you can drive in there to some parking lots. It's fantastic there, the moon shines through and when you turn on the music real loud it's like the trees are singing. I was wearing this pulli I bought on friday. It's all warm and makes me feel fluffy inside. So I lighted this cigarette and turned on Springsteen real loud and sat on my car. Then I laid back and this wonderful Thunder Road acoustic started playing. It's way better than the original recording on Born to Run. I was laying there watching the moonshine filling my eyes. It's great when you wear glasses, so you can put them off and see the world blurry. So when Bruce sang:

They scream your name at night in the street
Your graduation gown lies in rags at their feet
And in the lonely cool before dawn
You hear their engines roaring on
But when you get to the porch they're gone
On the wind, so Mary climb in
It's a town full of losers
And I'm pulling out of here to win

and after that the audience started applauding enthusiastically, it summed up everything in the world for me. I know it's sad and you hate Springsteen but that moment sent flashes of love through me and all vanity and cynism got sent out of this forest and left me laying there superior. It was fantastic. Now I'm all happy. I even smiled when I logged on here and it said 'Thank you for logging in, Thomas.' I found it so nice!

:)

pointless thread, I know..

I like going out to the woods and singing, running and jumping with other Real Ale drinkers.

That's a lovely story :) I could do with a little unbridled contentment myself. Life is good on the rare occasions when everything seems to make sense and you feel all warm and fuzzy. Until you are thrust back into the cold light of post-millenial existence that is.

Thank you Pimpf, you're a David Bowie song, aren't you? :)

.. and you can always count on Dave to lower the tone of your carefully reconstructed romantic sunday evening

I was only saying what makes me feel alive and warm and amiable to people, life and tree, it wasn't a tone lowerer at all :(

I like Springsteen a lot, even if I'm far from having heard all his songs as I only got into him with The Rising (I was randomly switching channels and fell upon Worlds Apart live on MTV... I was completely blown away!!! :D )

And yes, Thunder Road is brilliant, especially the ending! :)

What a fantastic story.:) I'd wish I could have been there to expirience it myself. God... how I need something beautiful like that in my life right now...:(

Oh yeah, don't listen to Dave, he's just a joker, he can only be trusted to spoil things, etc etc. Thanks guys.

That´s wonderful. Thank you for sharing. :)

I´ve been visiting a friend for a few days, and today when I got home I felt really down. I knew it was just because I was tired, but I couldn´t help feeling really miserable, unloved and useless. But then I drank some tea and my best friend called me and we talked for a couple of hours and it made me happy, because I know there´s at least one real soulmate in my life.

YAY! :D

... and Worlds Apart isn't even one of Brucie's best songs!

I haven't had a free Sunday (apart from one) for weeks now because I've been on a weekend permaculture course and we've met up every weekend since then apart from the first weekend after the course. We went camping twice and yesterday some of us went on a boat trip to Lundy Island. I'm looking forward to chilling out from now on. Just me and my cockatiels.

I love Bank Holidays because where I last worked we weren't entitled to them or even time off in lieu. Special events, fun TV programmes and less traffic in the city streets. Great!

That really is a nice story, they're all right. I might have to give my nearest forest a go one day :)

I've always found Sundays a bit frustrating though... you wake up in the morning, you’ve got to read all the Sunday papers, the kids are running round, you’ve got to mow the lawn, wash the car, and you think “Sunday, bloody Sunday!”.
