I see myself really wanting a music weekly and I remember Melody Maker making me laugh every week (esp their Kid A review - hilarious!)
I miss it.

i loved the picture with that review too!
if it came back, i would probably do what i did before, buy it ocasionally. towards the end the style got on my nerves a bit, it dumbed down.
plus, it was way over the top about mansun, (this is coming from a hardcore fan of 7 years) it just gave everything top marks, even the so-so last album Little Kix.
also, how often can you repeat the one joke mr agreeable? axe him, i might buy it.
as a student though, the introduction of posters was very useful in covering up a grim halls of residence room.
I never bought it, but there were bits of it in the Radiohead NME Originals mag, which caught my eye. I'd certainly buy it if it came back.
i loved Melody Maker, bought it every week without fail, i'd definitely buy it every week:D ...i remember buying the last issue which had a little leaflet in it saying they were stopping making it...totally gutted me because NME and Kerrang are complete crap really:( ...Melody Maker has been the only music mag I've ever fully read cover to cover...
I never liked Melody Maker much, I always thought it was a bit wet and pulled its punches too much, but I guess NME is at the other extreme and is just too damned cynical. I still buy it though, I don't hate it as much as most people seem to. Maybe thats because I don't get annoyed if they slag the Manics off :P

I loved MM. NME always took itself far too seriously but MM got the balance right between what the fans wanted and what neede to be written about. NME seems to be turning into MM a bit anyway, getting more chatty.
I'd love to see diary of a Manic Street Preachers Fan again. That was The Best Thing Ever.

I must have missed that! Are there any transcripts available?
I really loved MM (until it started putting crappy nu-metal bands on the cover) It always had something Manicy so I kind of associate it with the Manics and glam in general. the letters page was cool, it would always have letters from MSP fans pleading for their return.

i want the supposedly 'out of focus' posters back as the NME posters are not always who i want on my wall. Do I want Avril Lavigne or Har Mar Superstar? No. Melody Maker gave me my first posters in the form of JJ72 and Radiohead and that year when Nicky won sexiest male again:D

Ah MM posters... I still have the one of James, Richey and Nicky all painted in gold on my wall :D
I'd definitely buy it again!

Never really liked it that much
the mr agreeable column just summed the whole mag up - the bit for 'controversial' rants, but all the swearwords were censored because they didn't want to offend anyone... f*** that
some nice posters though

Yeah apart from their championing of Durst and co they did a good job of promoting young acts from these isles, so the British indie act was quite healthy while NME continued to kiss americas ass. So it was nice while it lasted (which for me was a good 4 years) but i suppose with the internet being so popular now and cool sites like drowned in sound theres no need for a return. In short yes i'd buy it, but wouldnt it be a franchise of the nme now cos they bought it or something didnt they?
blatantly! i loved that magazine, mayn. my mum threw out my entire collection of old melody makers last year, i was well gutted.

They made it into a magazine and totally screwed it over..sales went downhill too..I loved the newspaper format of the MM.NME is just like the only thing that can semi fill the void every week. But its still pretentious. So fashion dictated. So Vines yesterday So King of Leon today...
They force feed you on shit bands like The Datsuns..making you almost entranced by them..'you must like the The Blobs' :o Then next week The Blobs are on the front cover  Then the reviews are contradictory according to the generalised feeling from the British Public..Justin Timberlake,Avril Lavigne,Kelly Osbourne..do you think these guys will be around in 10yrs time!?Nope...its pretentious all of it..
Bring back decent mags like MM and Select..

I bought it towards the end and loved it, I was distraught when it got cancelled. It was way better than NME is now, and probably was back then too.
NME kind of has a monopoly on that market now (Kerrang being a bit more specific, and Metal Hammer etc. going further) so it's a sad thing. They can sort of make or break bands themselves, as there doesn't seem any other big music paper around to review and draw attention to stuff. Usually we get crappy bands getting huge and we probably don't even know about some great music...

I've got a scan of it - how do I post a picture?
I'd certainly buy it again. Always preferred it to NME or Kerrang etc.
I've got the Manics fan diary I think...very funny from what I can remember.

I really really wanna see these "Diary of a Manics Fan" things. i've only read one or two. Somebody, post 'em, please!!
NME is far to slutty...they need to co-ordinate their journalists or something. and i'm tired of the way they back a band one week and slag it off the next, purely for fun. melody maker was ace. and it was shiny. shiny is good.

Oi, there were nowt wrong with Mansun, at least MM recognised that they had talent, unlike the NME. I recall they gave Little Kix 4/5, which wasn't OTT imho. I didn't think much of it at the time, but went back to it a couple of months ago and really liked it. It's certainly not a great deal worse than Lifeblood, and a similar transition of styles only unfortunately for Mansun it happened a few albums sooner.
What horrified me about MM in retrospect was the hyping up of Coldplay, and the Coldplay v Terris thing (what happened to them?) as it showed they could at times be no better than the NME. Didn't think much of them hyping Limp Bizkit either.
But would I still buy it? Definitely!

Yes, I'd certainly buy it *if* it came back in weekly newspaper form, with really good writers. I think the NME has suffered from lack of competition and I would like to see 2 weeklies again.

I remember when I used to buy the 3 weekly's, NME, Melody Maker and Record Mirror which was always my favourite, mthey were all then in Newspaper format and I remember i used to send for clothes from the back of the Melody Maker, Velvet flares and my first Afghan coat!!

Yeah, I'd definitely buy it again. I used to get it every week and have a huge pile of them stuck in my room
I never really liked NME all that much so I was upset when I heard MM was finishing. I carried on buying NME for a while after that and then just got really bored of it...

I would definately buy it again. NME is awful these days.

Melody Maker was stylish, sexy and got me into most of the bands i like. You knew that when they praised a band they were actually good. They got me listening to my favourite bands like Doves, Mogwai, Primal Scream and Radiohead. NME has done shit for me and most of the bands they hype up turn out to be student druggie indie types *cough Libertines*. I decided to stop buying NME two weeks ago, all hope of it getting anywhere near the class of Melody Maker has gone.
YES bring back Melody Maker. They used to show you a range of all kinds of music, and that very reason is why i've got into so many different types. They also gave me the influence to write my own tracks.

You know that review made me buy Kid A. I knew they were taking the piss because they praised the fuck out of it when it came to the Radiohead Kid A tour. I still have that review, at least MM were funny when slagging albums whereas the NME just say the same old shit all the time.
They also gave me the influence to write my own tracks.
Did you ever fancy sending them into Holly though :P I think she trashed nearly everything she recieved!

Not once she went over to NME, the fucking bitch.
The magazine 'merge' from hell.
Melody makers stuff only appeared for a few weeks, then got dropped!
