Hamburger University is McDonald's worldwide management training center located in Oak Brook, Illinois. Designed exclusively to instruct personnel employed by McDonald's Corporation or employed by McDonald's Independent Franchisees in the various aspects of the business. All training programs begin with one essential ingredient: The Basics of McDonald's Operations.

Founded in 1961, Hamburger University's has come a long way since we opened our first training facility in the basement of a McDonald's restaurant in Elk Grove Village, Illinois. Since that time we've moved Hamburger University twice and watched the size of classes grow from an average size of about 10 to more than 200 per class.

Today, more than 65,000 managers in McDonald's restaurants have graduated from Hamburger University, now located in a 130,000 square foot, state-of-the-art facility on the McDonald's Home Office Campus in Oak Brook, Illinois, with a faculty of 30 resident professors.

Because of McDonald's international scope, translators and electronic equipment enable professors to teach and communicate in 22 languages at one time. McDonald's also manages ten international training centers, including Hamburger Universities in England, Japan, Germany and Australia.

This is worrying.

This is not unique to mcdonalds. The man who owns Dominoes Pizza is trying to get funds to set up a Catholic University in Florida. Not sure whether all Dominoes employees have to attend though:confused:

That is fucking scary

I hate the fact that evil corporations rule the world. I heard or read somewhere that a guy in America wore a pepsi t-shirt to school and was suspended because there was a coke day there or something. I can't remember exactly what it was.

Well, if people didn't buy their products their empires would soon collapse, no-one is forcing us, we have more of a choice now than we have had for years.
Anyway, McDonalds is a huge and very successful, popular company, they want to try and train their employees well and be as profitable as they possibly can. I don't think theres anything malevolent about these 'hamburger universities', its just good business sense.

Yeah, there's a bit about it in Fast food Nation, and Stupid White Men.
Also, there's loads of stuff on the Hamburger Universities in FFN.

Its sad when people become jealous of success. What do you want McD to do, sell up?

Yeah UEF, I'm sure people on here are pining to run their own homogenised food empire complete with branded university.

but I don't see it as *that* scary either. It is, after all, just a glorified training facility.

It might be a naive outlook (read: it is), but you would have thought that such corporations with so much power would use it more responsibly.
I'm not talking about the Hamburger thing here, more about trading and workforces around the world that they employ.

That would be nice, but I agree highly unlikely. :(
