It's a long tour, probably gonna be quite expensive. Thought it'd be a good idea to start a thread to see about making things cheaper for people whether it's saving a few quid by upgrading from a twin room to a family room or putting a few quid in a petrol tank, whatever.
Anyway... I'm planning on doing first night, last night and all the ones from Hull to Lincoln. I live in Manchester right now, dunno if I will be come tour time (long story), but I'll know then. Should be able to put a two or three people up.
Well.. Good luck making the tour more economical.

This way's cheaper, darling.
I'll be driving to Leicester from around the Dunstable/Leighton Buzzard area, via MK should that be of use to anyone. Will be pleased to be of assistance and won't expect unwaranted gig-hang-aroundage.

It's a nice idea for a thread but maybe people should be a little cautious, like in the ticket thread...
Aye, course. Easy enough to say I'm trustworthy, but whatever. Hopefully people might benefit from this thread if there's enough trust. Maybe it'd be a good idea to stick a note in the OP warning people to ask any of the mods/senior members to vet how reliable they think the repliers are? Not that I expect you to go beyond your duty or anything, I think most people on here have their heads screwed on enough to be cautious, but I'm sure newer members could find it reassuring to find another user with your approval.
To be honest, we can't do that. The mods anyway. If you do something it's at your own risk, we can't be held responsible or guarantee anyone. I'm not saying it's not a good plan necessarily, just a bit of caution is always a good plan.
sculptureofabloke
02-06-2010, 00:21
True, but if there's anyone you distrust you know better than me, can delete their posts or whatever. I know you can't guarantee anything, but if people haven't already established each other's trust, your advice has gotta be better than nothing? Still, good luck to anyone who needs it.
Well I'm not just gonna accept an offer from a randomer, so a bit of communication before would be nice. But anyone in need of digs in Bristol are more than welcome to get in touch with me about it. I'll be living in my new flat in the centre (about 2mins away from the venue) by then.

Doing Newport alone as well. Last time, I stayed at the Gateway hotel. It's not very far from the venue (and I walked safely back there :p) and is nice to stay at.

Hi I'm thinking of doing Newport and would be going alone. Not 100% though... I used to go to Cardiff uni and know Cardiff very well. Just noticed lots of people are doing Newport alone!
Bought Bristol tickets, me and a friend are planning to come down from Exeter, so if we can't get transport back after the gig we may need somewhere to crash. Does anyone have a spare floor? I'm very clean and well-spoken, and quite easy on the eye too.

I don't know the areas too well, but you should be fine to walk if you follow a route that goes by main roads (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=211+Stockwell+Road,+London,+UK+SW9+9SL,+Unit ed+Kingdom+(O2+Academy+Brixton)&daddr=51.4594631,-0.1326561+to:51.46166,-0.13809+to:80-81+Clapham+Common+South+Side,+London+SW4+9DQ,+Unit ed+Kingdom+(Euro+Hotel)&hl=en&geocode=FZ1MEQMd-j3-_yGJ0Xwccirh9CkvVSoPZwR2SDFvpaNhn8X4BQ%3BFYc1EQMd0 Pn9_ylBi47-TgR2SDEwjpSqLa4OEw%3BFRw-EQMdluT9_yn5-TJ4TQR2SDGgqTY5xoUREw%3BFVElEQMd1sr9_yl7vdRFtAV2SD EaXqy9_-u9Rg&mra=dpe&mrcr=0&mrsp=2&sz=15&via=1,2&dirflg=w&sll=51.458446,-0.127373&sspn=0.013985,0.048108&ie=UTF8&z=15) (and even if you don't, really). Brixton has always had a bit of a bad reputation, but I think a lot of that is an unreasonable hangover from past decades; I know a few people who live/have lived there without problems.
If you'd rather go by public transport, where the worst that will happen is that a weirdo will talk to you (and this probably won't happen), you can get the 37 bus from stop V, near/outside Lambeth Town Hall, and it'll get you to the nearest stop to your hotel (Clapham Common, stop K), in about 20 minutes. It would probably be a good idea to scope out the bus stops on your way to the venue; all London bus stops have a name now - like Lambeth Town Hall - so check the name of stop K (it might not be Clapham Common, you see) - and there should be an announcer thing on the bus that tells you which stop you're approaching so that you know to press the bell and get off.
Hope that makes sense! Check Journey Planner (http://journeyplanner.tfl.gov.uk/user/XSLT_TRIP_REQUEST2?language=en) for this and other journeys; it is mostly useful! It will also be able to give you maps showing where bus stops are and where you need to walk to.
Afterthought! Walk It London (http://walkit.com/cities/london/) is also quite useful.
Damn, that travelodge offer isn't there for the brum date I want. Poo.
Still at a loss to where I can stay in London that is affordable and reasonably close to the venue.. and then there's Bristol to sort out.

Great advice!

Are there any kind people in Aberdeen who might have a nice comfy floor or sofa I could crash out on ? Just on the night of the gig ( thursday ). Also if anyone is stuck in Leeds after the Monday gig they are welcome to stop at our house ( Huddersfield ).

Bayswater might not be a baddish choice, Kensington, Noting Hill. All Tubeable Distances away from Brixton.

If anyone needs a place to crash in Edinburgh, drop me a PM. I think I've got two or three of my mates staying over after the gig already, but there should be a spare bed or sofa.

No don't. Post a blurry, out of focus black and white one and make an oblique reference to which gig it might possibly be able to transport you to. :p
Anyone who can recommend a nice place in Cambridge, not too far from the Corn Exchange ? I've managed to find a hotel, but I think it's a bit overpriced for what it offers. So if I can find better, I'd be very happy :)
Which one did you find? There's not a lot near the venue really...there's a hostel by the station and a youth hostel, but I'd guess they are about a mile's walk.

EDIT: Loadsa Place in Bayswater/Hyde Park Road?? - Like 2 star-ish places, and as there are some roadworks until November, no traffic noise!

Yeah should be ok only 5 mins walk from Clapham Common Tube Station.
Yeah just keep your eyes peeled, that part of Clapham can be really fucking Sketchy at night, i would come back with you if i was going to crash at my Dads but as i am not.. ..Sorry.
A taxi from Brixton should be no more than bout £10/£12???
Hope this helps, Part Time Clapham Residentee, Dex.
Thank you too, Dex ! :X

My very special lady friend is taking care of the booking of the hotel. We will probably be somewhere within walking distance of the train station.
I'm all for good advise when it comes to the local boozers! Cheers.
okay, I need your help in planning my stay and travel in UK.
there's one very important issue for me.
I'm coming from Glasgow to Leeds via Manchester and I have 6 hours in Manchester before the bus to Leeds. my biggest dream ever was visiting Old Trafford stadium as I'm a ManUtd fan since I was 10 (oh those David Beckham and Peter Schmeichel posters above my bed).
anyway, I need your suggestions how to travel from Manchester Shudehill Interchange (yes, I'm using megabus) to the stadium. I know there's a Metrolink with trams and busses, but I'm not sure if I were familiar with changes etc. so I need some suggestions from Mancunians, please  as I'll be traveling with a big bag, and I'm just a small lady, I need some comfortable and cheap form of transport. it can be that Metrolink if someone tells me how to go. I suppose 6 hours should be enough for coming to the stadium and taking pics of Matt Busby, Bobby Charlton and George Best sculptures eh? because I'm coming there at 1pm and have a Leeds bus at 7pm. alas, I won't be able to enter the stadium, as it's over 10 quid per entrance and it's quite a lot for me. but at least seeing it from the outside will be awesome and it's gonna be one of the most magnificent experiences during my stay.
also if any FDer would like to meet me in Manchester on that day, or in Leeds on the following day 'till the Leeds Manics gig, feel free to contact with me.
and a few more questions - how big is Leeds airport? does anyone know any hot spots in Leeds? what's the weather like in October in West Yorkshire? I'm in Leeds for 10 days and I'm trying to find some cool ideas how to spend the time there in an interesting way

Best thing I can think of is a 250 bus to the Trafford Centre from Piccadilly Gardens, that goes right past the stadium. I'm sure there'll be a stop near by. Failing that, I think the 100 goes from Shudehill to the Trafford Centre too. I'd double check though, because I'm not 100% sure (I'm not originally from here).
As for weather in West Yorkshire? Probably cold and wet. Just how I like it. :)
thanks for suggestions!
do you think it would work? are there places nearby to buy a bus ticket or can I buy a ticket at the drivers'?

You'll be alright just paying on the bus. I'm still not totally sure if the buses I mentioned are right though. If I go that way between now and the gig, I'll let you know.
Is the Leeds gig the only one you're off to?
someone, somewhere, soon
06-09-2010, 23:17
there is a tram stop near Old Trafford, it's closer to the cricket ground, but probably only a 10 minute walk to the stadium;
http://www.metrolink.co.uk/pdf/local_maps/old_trafford.pdf
the trams are fairly easy to work, from Shudehill just aim for the Altringham tram and get off at Old Trafford - chances are you'll need to change at Piccadilly Gardens, but from there it's fairly obvious;
http://www.metrolink.co.uk/pdf/Metrolink%20ontram%20sytem%20map%20issued%20322_09 %20AW%20V4.pdf
incidentally, whilst you're at Shudehill, take a look down the road with the Arndale to your back... that big orange building at the other end of the road, with the pointy glass bit at the top? i live in there :) - i can see Shudehill riiiiiiight now, just by leaning back in my chair!
if i was in town i'd offer to show you around, but being thursday, work calls!

the same way for me too, I did nothing for the last 3 months, saving money for the tour so I can do 4 dates. also the last semester at the uni was great and I worked very hard so I deserve cool gigs with my favourite band ever. I'm looking forward to meet you personally

OK Deets, but beware! - They Call him.. ..The Frantisist or on some occasions, The Franilator!
I was thinking I could meet up with people whilst I was in Yorkshire but the only gigs that week in Yorkshire (and Humberside) are Sheffield and Hull. I do like both cities though. I'd spend time with people but not that interested in the gigs, I suppose if I went and saw BSP and left I'd still have time to get back to Selby / Bradford after though.....
Probably won't bother :P
oh and a short question, does anyone know if I have to have megabus tickets printed? because I've just paid for the journey and they sent to my email address just the reservation numbers, with no attachments to print. or do I have to have just that reservation number along with me?

You usually just need a note of the reservation number, but I usually take a print out just in case. It's not essential though.
