View Full Version : blackhorse apocolypse?
I was at a UCAS convention today at Sheffield Arena, and there was a stall for NatWest. Blairing out from a portable stereo next to the stall was Forever Delayed no less. After having a private giggle to myself about the sentiments of the song, I realise that Richey kind of had a point when he wrote it, in terms of trying to encourage people to work at banks, as opposed to carrying on in education [university wise].
Opinions?
[apologies if I've badly misinterpreted these lyrics by the way :p ]
I'm assuming you are talking about natwest barclays midlands lloyds, as richey didn't write forever delayed? :p
ah yes sorry i didn't make that clear. i meant forever delayed the album by the way ;)

I always thought N-B-M-L was just a pretty standard anti-capitalist/anti-corporate lyric, I certainly don't think it advocates working in banks!
You are of course totally entitled to that view though ;)
Well i thought it was anti banks, because the refused to give richey credit and also the manics had talks about careers by local banks when they were at school.

I never knew that! That makes me feel better... I had so much trouble getting credit, had to fight with my bank for months, despite the fact I was in full time employment, had savings and had never been in debt

i know, but the point I was making was that the music they were playing was the manics - the band who wrote N - B - M - L.
In the Everything book, it says how Richey was disgusted at Nat West turning up at schools to try and lure people into working for them. I just thought it was ironic that the same company years later would be using the Manics' music, that's all.

Ah right, sorry! :) Yeah, it's ironic. The band would go into the banks saying they were going to be the biggest band in the world and all that, and no one would give them a loan. And I believe there was pressure for them to go and work in banks when they left school.
it was annoying, because i was the only one who picked up on it out of my friends, who know nothing about good music
[p.s. alexliamw - N - B - M - L is a great song and in no way rubbish! :p ]
