I just noticed that Qantas are using 'Australia' as their back music. I don't really give a shit about artists letting adverts use their music, but does anyone else have any thoughts, not only on the Manics but bands and other artists letting their material be used in advertisments?
It's the record company that let the advertisers use them, as they own the rights to the songs, not the artists. Crazee.
i think they want the money. tonight at glastonbury nicky didnt
want to be there really, you could tell they just wanted the money.
i mentioned on the old forum that i was pissed off that Muse's feeling good was used for nescafe ad - turned out they had already refused permission and have now been paid compensation which they're donating to oxfam and other charities. white stripes refused to do Gap advert too.
I know it doesn't matter for everyone but it would make a difference to me if a band i liked were knowingly supporting a product/company which i considered unethical - but that's just my view. I'd feel uncomfortable, but not sure what action I'd take - fortunately it hasn't happened yet with a certain Welsh band ! :) :) (unless having thre by the grace of god playing in kevin webster's garage counts :D ) I don't hav eany probs with qantas as far as I know.
I'm sure I saw a nescafé ad the other day which had the original version of feeling good on it, perhaps the company tried to wrangle out of legal action?
