This is homophobia gone mad!

Pastor Terrance Baynes warned that there were some residents "who may not be sure of their sexuality".
"One has to be careful about how this can create impressions on impressionable minds," he said.
Argghh! Quick, run! The gayness, it's spreading!!!! :scared:

Good to see they're up to date with new threats. It's not like Elton's been releasing records and touring for the last 40 years...

Oh for goodness' sake!
I think I need a t-shirt which says 'get your stupid out of my religion'...
am i the only one that finds it funny that people think gay can be spread through music. aarrrggghhhh no, the subliminal gayness is overpowering! maybe we could have gay rating on records, for how much subliminal gay they contain. or maybe an alarm that goes off when you pick it up.
'warning, this record contains high amounts of gay' that sort of thing...
:p

I laughed at that. You could have a sliding scale of one to ten from Scissor Sisters (10) down to Pat Robertson with a musical accompaniment (1).

How much would the Manics score?
or maybe the traffic lights system that they put on food green=safely straight, yellow=moderate (but probably safe if you don't overdo it)levels of gay, red=danger! gay.
or something.
i just have visions of priests running round shouting 'don't listen to that, you might catch gay', like its a cold

Considering some of the music I listen to I should be well gay by now judging by their standards :P

How much would the Manics score?
5 - no gay members, not many gay related lyrics, but pro-gay and lefty.
Also how could they not score a few points for the 'Love's Sweet Exile' video?
Yes I have thought about this too much.
Could we not convince them to boycott the Scissor Sisters instead? :p

There's no such thing as thinking too much about the LSE videos. In fact, I might go and watch them later tonight. Yum.
Sorry, I associate the early stuff together :D All the early stuff is one pornographic mass in my dirty little head. Including James's Mr Spock haircut in Motown Junk.

Evidence I have thought about this too much (revised system, Manics now score a 6):
The Gay Rating System (Men)
10 - Gay members, gay lyrical themes, stereotypical campness, pro-gay in interviews. Scissor Sisters
9 - Gay members, gay lyrical themes, theatrical but not OTT camp, pro-gay in interviews. Rufus Wainwright, Elton John
8 - Gay members, few gay lyrical themes, pro-gay in interviews. The Feeling
7 - Closeted gay members, not many gay related lyrics, member comes out without shame. Judas Priest
6 - No gay members, not many gay related lyrics, but pro-gay and lefty, some homoerotic symbolism used. Manic Street Preachers, Prince, Franz Ferdinand
5 - No gay members, no gay related lyrics, not obviously pro or anti gay, don't celebrate macho heterosexuality Kaiser Chiefs, Maximo Park
4 - No gay members, no gay related lyrics, not obviously pro or anti gay, celebrate macho heterosexuality, call people "poofs". Oasis
3 - No gay members, slight anti-gay bias in lyrics, celebrate macho heterosexuality. Guns 'N' Roses
2 - No gay members, anti-gay lyrics, celebrate macho heterosexuality, anti-gay in interviews. Elephant Man, Beenie Man
1 - No gay members, being anti-gay is an all consuming reason for living. Pat Robertson

Pat Robertson with musical accompaniment is possibly the worst thing I can imagine having to listen to (and my ex used to play Avril Lavigne in the car). I suppose Donnie Davies (http://www.donniedavies.com/) would score about the same, were he not a parody.

Where does Patrick Wolf score? :D
He's an 8 I reckon. Whilst he does cover himself in glitter and mince around he loses the extra point for being bi (tut tut, heterosexuality) and not really putting his sexuality across as much as others in his lyrics. He'd still give most mad fundies are cardiac though, which is what counts. 8 is still pretty awesome.

well for vastly different reasons, I do think the Tobagian (not sure what word to use there) people would be far better off in general if they dont go to an Elton John concert

Patrick Wolf is bi? Is that Bi now gay later?:p
This wouldn't be so amusing if Elton John hadn't been banned from some random Muslim country and one of the religious leaders went to the media and told them he thought the desision was idiotic. "After all, you don't see the Christians go out and ban him because he's homosexual" he told the newspaper.
I bet some priest read that article and that's what started this... :P

Well, i don't know about you guys, but listening to Elton John makes me want to engage in homosexual activities; its all because of my tiny impressionable mind. I am just not as astute as members of the clergy.
