So who's going then? Are people arriving early/spending whole day there or just turning up for nicky?

Amanda
28-08-2006, 15:36
With all the inevitability of something somewhat obvious we're going - and even more shockingly we were thinking of getting there early :)

In answer to you question in the other thread a month or so ago he was looking like starting at 9 for a 40-45 minute set, I dunno if thats changed since though - it could be worth emailing to ask as they are very very helpful so would soon let you know if it has changed.

Yeah, I think I will email them. On their myspace it says the times should be up soon.

Yep, I'm going too :D I'm travelling up by train on the Friday, as I wouldn't get there till Saturday evening otherwise.

This one I am going to. Does anybody fancy giving two lost souls a lift back to Swansea the Saturday night?

we are all camping on sat night and driving home sunday - camping is free with the ticket

Amanda
28-08-2006, 23:04
Otherwise theres a train back to Swansea about half two in the morning as I was looking at getting back at one point and you caught that then changed - I don't think its far from the festival to the station but I don't know how easy it will be to get there. Camping definitely seemed the easiest option though.

Im going, travelling down on the Friday night - the train at 2:30am is the boat train from Fishguard - I would check at your nearest station or Rail Enquiries about the exact time of this train as the timetable changes quite frequently and the National Rail website does not always have the most up to date information for this route!!

Oh, and this is probably the saddest question ever, but has anyone been to the Showground because I was wondering just how muddy it might be??

I'm just hoping the rain that's been forecast doesn't appear. Even if some things are indoors, it's still annoying getting about when it's wet. The "proper paths" bit sounds good though!

Awesome pics there! Nicky was superb, first time ive seen him solo and was very impressed - wasnt particularly impressed with the organisation at Macs tho, allowing the bands earlier on in the day to over run appeared to bite back at the end of the day when they were making others cut back their sets. The Crimea had the lights turned out on them in the middle of their final song, Nicky came very close to having the lights turned off on him and was forced to cut a fair bit out of his set.

Quite a poor turnout if I were the organisers I would be extremely dissappointed I expect they made a loss on the event and I guess the weather deterred those who would have turned up on the day.

We arrived Saturday morning in the worst of the weather and pitched our tents, did our best to dry off then headed over to the cow shed - i take my hat off to those of you who spent the whole day at the barrier that is quite hardcore - I just loitered around the burger vans!

go_buzz_baby
04-09-2006, 10:41
it wasnt so bad on the barrier, we were inside so dry, but it wins the award for worlds most pointless queing ever as we were queing under a shelterd bit and hadent relised about 30 people had gone in and to the bar already
still it was all good fun, tea and cake and babycham the night befor i wouldnt have wanted to miss that though could have done without the 5am waking up to being rained on

lovely photos hanna i have to finish off my film tonight (poinless photos of my walls probbley) and send of the film so wont have them back for a week or so

the singer from the crymear jumped into the croud for the last song so they couldnt stop him i dont know why they didnt turn of the sound as its not like "ohh the lights have gone out we cant play anymore" i was enjoyinh them up untill they over ran possible thing of buying the album but now im just anoyed with them (yes i know im fickle)

Nicky only cut one song off the written set list but were also planning to do others aparently

wonderful wonderful man and his band is lovely too and generally im just really happy if somewhat tired

I bought The Crimea's album on the way home yesterday it is very good - all my clothes were soaked and smelly so I looked like a tramp wandering around Swansea yesterday lunchtime in a pair of dodgy shorts and flip flops! Also pre-ordered Nicky's album when I got home!

Nicky wins over two fans of The Automatic. Yay!

Nicky Wire was amazing actually, so much better than i was expecting

watched The crimea and Nicky Wire at the front, who were both a lot better than I thought they would be, especially Nicky Wire.

Yeah, I think I might buy the crimea's album, they were pretty good.

Nicky was good, very impressive, even with his voice. I have to say I couldn't stop myself from giggling during Goodbye Suicide, I'm not sure why, just his vocals. The end was pretty good really, although a bit annoying he had to cut stuff out of his set...

I think I'll brave seeing him solo acoustically, you have to admit he was good because of his band live, they really made the songs.

I wondered why they didn't turn the sound off too. I hate the Crimea - what an arrogant, rude, selfish thing to do. They were signalled to to stop and they just carried on - that song lasted 10 minutes. And then they had the fucking cheek to sing another too. Pathetic, IMO....

wonderful wonderful man and his band is lovely too and generally im just really happy if somewhat tired

Yes, Nicky was so sweet afterwards. We had a fantastic time - although my brain aches from tiredness. :D

Nicky's voice sounded great (even though the sound system there wasn't particularly good). He looked gorgeous - I'm definitely a fan of that white suit now!

Thank you for that beautiful pic and link, Hanna.

Yes i quite liked Crimea until they decided to carry on and run over their time! Im very thankful it was in the cowshed as all day barrier-ness would have been quite bad in the rain.

True, although I assume they wanted to finish their set as much as Nicky did, so presumably we can't blame them really - although did they just take too long?

Well, that was all rather good. I love the Crimea, so them and Nicky one after the other was awesome. :D

Even if we did end up leaving and getting the train back to Cardiff in the middle of the night because our tent was so waterlogged... damn weather!

05-09-2006, 19:14
I'd have probably liked the Crimea more if they'd not over run and made Nicky drop a couple of songs and if the sound quality of the cattle shed hadn't made everything sound like it was being pumped through a giant shoe. However, the lead singer entering the crowd made it easier to get from the bar to the second row for Wire - bwuhahaha

Amanda
05-09-2006, 20:42
yup, but the setlist isn't quite right as he had to drop (nicky wire's) last, which he described as his favourite song and there was no condemened to rock'n'roll. Also from despair got used as the intro to ocean rain rather than sehnsucht, or at least i'm pretty sure it did.

Anticipation was high for Nicky Wire. Manics fans wearing eyeliner and leopard skin had waited for their favourite bassist since the venue opened, some travelling from as far away as Finland.

When he took the stage in a white suit and matching hat he looked the consummate rock star, although it soon became clear why he was never lead singer in the Manics.

Still, he kept his fans happy and ready for the main attraction
